Question about LeCarb "Ice Cream"

I am confused and need help (not much news there ) My DH likes to have his allowed treats on Atkins like some of the low carb bars, etc. I had seen several posts on LeCarb Frozen Dessert on here but hadn't been able to get it in my area. Well, I found it at my super Wal-Mart the other day and got the strawberry, vanilla and also the lemon flavor. He really liked it and was good about eating it...took 4 days to eat the pint of strawberry. I remember when a pint would have been one serving for me and it would have been the real stuff!

Anyway, I tasted the lemon and it IS good but I got to looking at the ingredients. The front of the container says it's sweetened with Splenda but the ingredients read: water, milkfat and nonfat milk, lemon cream base (SUGAR, eggs, water, butter (cream, salt) lemon juice, natural flavor, citric acid, fd&c yellow#5, glycerine, whey protein concentrate, egg whites, guar gum, mono & diglycerides, locust bean gum, polysorbate 80, pectin, Splenda, yellow no. 5.

The carb listing is: Total carbs 7g.
Fiber 0g
Sugars 5g.
Glycerine 2g.
I know you subtract the glycerine for 5 net carbs per serving (4 servings in a pint) so that would be 20 net carbs in the whole pint.

Finally to my question...is this Atkins allowed or is this just something people are eating anyway? Sugar is pretty high on the list of ingredients. I only noticed the Splenda emblem when I bought it (what I get for not looking closer!) I have avoided all the low carb bars and sugar free candies that some people eat because I don't want to start my sugar cravings again so I am especially concerned about real sugar. My DH seems to be able to cheat some and still lose with the sugar alcohol things but the real stuff might be a problem for him to. Anybody have any advice to offer? Thanks in advance!

Okay, I checked the vanilla and strawberry flavors and they don't list sugar so it must just be the lemon flavor. I will avoid it since I know that much sugar can't be good. I see a lot of people talk about the chocolate almond but I didn't see any of it. Does anyone know if it has sugar? Like I said this is just an occasional treat for my DH but he enjoys it and doesn't seem to be hurt by the treats he allows himself. Good thing I love him or :bash:

Just checked the label of the chocolate almond, and nope, no sugar listed. I am a sf candie, ice cream junkie. I have tried them all! I am not a big fan of the LeCarb, except for the choc. almond. It's pretty good. I just bought the cinnamon and will try it tommorrow. Thought it would be good with a little whipped cream.

So what other low carb brands are available? They didn't have the chocolate almond or cinnamon here in the LeCarb. I live in a small town so my choices are limited. Thanks so much for your answer about the sugar in the chocolate almond!

Check out Blue Bunny at your local Super Walmart! Addictive though, be very careful! Also, Atkins has very good ice cream, but also very expensive. I seem to do ok with sugar alcohols, so I often buy the sf versions of name brand ice creams. It's a label reading game! You seem to be doing really great! Your stats are wonderful! Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the info! I saw the Blue Bunny so I will check it out for DH. Like I said, I have to avoid because sugar (even the fake stuff) is like a drug for me.

I looked at the Blue Bunny today and noticed that some of the flavors are 17 carbs to start with. Subtract the sugar alcohols and still end up with like 14 per 1/2 cup. Is that correct? Or am I not finding the right kind?

The front said "Sugar Free" and had a sticker that said Sweetened with Splenda, so I think that's the right kind....

Whewwww! Thats a lotta carbs! Probably wouldn't bother DH though. The man must have the worlds best metabolism.

I checked out Blue Bunny a long time ago and even being sugar free and sweetened with Splenda, it was really, really high in carbs. I went with LeCarb instead. Atkins Endulge icecream is pretty good...kinda tastes like softserve icecream, but the only flavors I've seen is plain vanilla and plain chocolate.
