Sodium Concerns

I drink a decent amount of water every day (90-140 ounces) and I've never been a very big fan of salty foods. Because of this I sometimes wonder if I've got enough sodium in my body. Since I'm also trying to cut out processed meats this is a growing concern of mine. Does anyone have any good ways to get more sodium in? Or do you know of any way to figure out if you're getting enough sodium?

Thanks!

Just a few ideas........maybe some salted nuts, or chicken wings with the sauce, occasional hard salami. I am such a saltaholic that I'm jealous, jealous, jealous!

I make the most amazing salad dressing myself with olive oil, wine vinegar, spices, some lemon juice and sea salt. Essentially that is all the salt I would dare add to my diet. I try to avoid anything that has added salt... most folks will tell you that salt = water retention and thus the feeling of actually being heavier or bloated. I avoid processed meats as well so nada there. Tuna in a can has plenty of sodium and I eat salad with tuna all the time. In everything we wat they almost always add salt no matter how hard we try to avoid it. I could not imagine actively trying to increase my sodium intake. Lucky you though as I too have to admit that I crave salty foods most of the times.. !!

cheers

Getting enough sodium is not usually a problem. In the world of paleo dieting, we recommend as little sodium as possible, but loads of potassium. That usually stops leg cramps and such.

i believe the min. requirement for sodium is 500 mg, which is really not hard to get. most things have some sodium in them. i would think that even if you are restricting your sodium intake you are probably getting enough.

When I start eating natural foods instead of processed I lose too much water at first. I get light-headed and lowblood pressure, from losing lots of fluids (in the bathroom every hour). When it starts getting bad I have some canned chicken broth seasoned with seasalt from the healthfood store or a pickle. The vlasic ones are one carb and 290mg of sodium.

Hi

I find I will crave something that is traditionally salty, ie nuts, potato chips (!), cheese, etc., when I need salt, ie if I have been out during the summer with lots of water, lots of sweat, and not enough food!
