Good Protein Shakes ?

My DH and I are looking for a drinkable protein shake. The brand I am looking at is the KETO. I have heard/read so many negative things about the low-carb shakes, that I am afraid of investing in the wrong kind.

If KETO is an acceptable shake, is it palatable? What flavors do people prefer that have used it? What are some brands that people do use? (I know from Marlaine about "Whey Gourmet", but I don't think we can get it here in the states.)

Thanks for any help :)

Ok, I found some reviews on the KETO products, but I am still interested in other brands that people use. I found another brand that has 1000mg of glutamine already in it. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
KT

I went to my local GNC and just asked the guy for the best tasting whey protein shake they had!! I'm sorry I don't know the brand, but perhaps a knowledgable sales person can help you, too! I do know that the whey shakes are far better than soy, for sure. When I get home tonight I'll look at the brand and re-post, ok?

As for the glutamine, you probably need 10-15x that much per day if you are on a strong workout regimen. I take glutamine a supplement and don't worry about the glut in the shakes.

Thanks, Terri for your reply,

The shake I saw w/glutamine was whey. I look forward to hearing about the brand name. Have you tried the KETO shakes?
There seems to be quite a few people who like them. I guess I need to compare the protein content. I do know if it don't taste good-I don't drink it.

I notice your on BFL. Maybe later today I will have time to browse your journal. I'm seriously considering the plunge starting next Mon. I'm using this week to plan/prepare/practice.

At GNC they told me the best tasting is designer whey -- but get the flavored -- chocolate, vanilla or pecan praline (?). They are low in carbs and can be mixed with water or cream or a little of each. I also bought some sugar free davinci syrup and put a tablespoon of that in there and add no extra sweetener. The davinci is sweetened with splenda.

Missatc,

The whey protein I use is made by Optimum Nutrition and the label says in BIG letters: 100% Whey (I had chocolate)

Last night I bought some GNC brand in chocolate and vanilla so I'll let you know how those are.

I use MetRx Strawberries-n-Cream Protein. I get it at GNC. I mix it w/ 2 T heavy cream and cold water. Sometimes I put some peanut butter in also if I am in the mood.

I have tried many many shakes... hated them all, then tried Keto chocolate and loved it. But I am laying off them now as I am following a KISS/anti candida plan.
Doods. :)

I've purchased plenty. I love the Strawberry.
I enjoy a tall glass of shake 3/4 shake the rest water on ice.
It is fabulous. I had tried the powder
I gave it away to someone I know who likes it.

Hi, Sandy. Products Moderator here! Which post were you answering with this (so I can merge them for you)? I couldn't find it... if you get me the title I'll tidy it all up.

PS: Please use the Reply button and not the New Post button (unless you have a whole new subject to chat about, of course). Thanks.

Hi Islandgirl:

Just received your e-mail.
I have no idea what I titled them.
I really appreciate your help.
A thread is for a new subject? Whereas the reply goes straight to the writer? How do you stay on the same page?
Sorry I sound so ignorant, but I don't know!
Thanks.

Hi, Sandy.

Are you getting to the posts by "notification email", then clicking on the link in the email? Sounds like it.

Ok, if you ever just go to the site and then cruise around, you'll see whole Forums with titles, like LowCarb Products. The forum contains the "conversational threads" that also have titles, like the "Liquid Splenda with Absolutely No Carbs". Within the threads are collections of posts in date order.

If you are responding to a particular post (so you are already IN a titled conversational thread) just use the Reply button at the bottom of each page of a thread, and your post will stay right there in that thread.

If you want to start a new conversation but about the same subject as the thread you are reading, still use the Post Reply button but change the subject line ...

If you want to start a whole new subject area (and don't want it INSIDE that particular conversational 'thread') use the New Thread utton at the bottom of each page of a thread, and your post will become the first post of a brand new conversational thread, the subject line you give it will be the title and it will show by itself at the top of the Forum you are in... it takes a bit of practice, but use the Reply button the most and you will get the hang of it and others will be able to find your answers, too.

Using Natural Whey with no flavors and 0 CARBs

I posted this question on another thread but haven't received a reply. So here goes.

I'm looking for a GOOD receipe using 100% Whey with no additive and 0 CARBs. That kind of Whey is hard to find, but it is out there. Since there is so much concern over HIDDEN CARBS and just the COST of these powdered shakes, I'm trying to find a good receipe on how to use this 0 CARB Whey Protein. I'm thinking I'll save money too.

Anyone know a good receipe?

sorry,

I wish I could help you with a recipe. I use Twinlabs, Chocolate Surge. However, there are carbs-8 to be exact minus 2g Fiber. There are no hidden carbs, and no aspartame. To this, I add 1 TAB flaxseed oil, 1 TAB heavy cream, 1 scoop of pure whey protein, and a heaping tsp of glutamine powder. I have also tried the KETO brand and it tasted great too! The KETO (Chocolate peanutbutter) has only 2 carbs minus .5 fiber. Again, no hidden carbs and no aspartame. I tried the vanilla flavor and added 1/2 c. of a frozen triple berry blend (raspberry, marionberry, and blueberry) It tasted wonderful, but found out (eventually) I seem to have an intolerance for berries :(

Sorry this isn't exactly what you were looking for. I hope you find something that works for you and tastes good. Oh, almost forgot. I do use different flavored extracts to change the tastes around. I don't know the carb count or effects on insulin levels.
