CAD & Ketosis

I have been doing CAD again for 11 days now. I haven't done CAD for a long time, and have never really paid attention to my ketones unless I was on Atkins.

I am just wondering if it's a bad idea to be in ketosis while on CAD.

I have been in Trace to Moderate since the day after I started. I am experiencing no adverse effects, just wondering if I should up my RM carbs.

Thanks in advance for info!

Melissa

Started CAD 10/12/02 - SW 305/CW 295!

CAD is a non-ketogenic diet but it does act on insulin levels. Don't worry about being in ketosis with it. If you're there fine. If you're not, but following the plan with your Reward Meal fine. If you cycle in and out of ketosis, fine too.

Thanks

I have heard advice both ways, but wasn't sure if there were negative aspects to being in Ketosis now.

I actually think I am in better ketosis now, doing CAD, than I was ever able to get into on Atkins. Go figure! :D

Personally, I think it has to do with being limited to no more than three meals and a snack a day! Carbohydrate addicts can have reactive insulin surges when eating at more than four time a day, even if the foods are low carb. I find that if I include any more meals than that, as many Atkinsers recommend, I get knocked out of ketosis and start having cravings.

Zuleikaa I think your answer may just hit the nail on the head :) and i dont have the snack and only very light comp meals.

I really feel that because of CAD and the insulin control the body isn't storing the carbs you eat. Therefore sometimes you're in ketosis in the presence of carbs and weight loss can speed up. But I also believe that being in ketosis without carbs is not good for a CAD and that it is harder for a CAD to get into ketosis due to the reactive nature of his/her insulin response.

thanks I think

That's the spirit! I think sometimes we tend to "over think" some of this stuff. CAD is easy....if you are not craving and you are losing some weight, then it's working for you.

And bringing in concepts from a different plan may confuse the issue of whether or not CAD is working for you. The ketosis is something I think Atkins stresses strongly, while the Hellers don't seem to.

I believe I read something in one of their books about the possibility of one going into ketosis, but they don't seem to consider it important, as Dr. Atkins does. But that's just my take on it...be sure to read and reread your book....there's gold in them thar pages, just waiting for you to pick it up. I get something new each time I reread my books! :)
