How to get up when you're feeling down.....

One of the biggest challenges for success in anything is staying motivated during those trying times. I have some different ideas & techniques for getting my head back in the right place so it can take my body back to the right place.

Here's one simple one. I start to think back to when I was at my highest weight. I get my head right into it thinking of all the details of what it was like to be that overweight. The pain in the knees, the self-conciousness, the incredible frustation as I tried to get thinner with no success only more weight gain. Then after I can really empathize with the old me I think of where I am. Suddenly I feel really good again.

I have some other things I do which I hope to post here from time to time but I'm really eager to know what you do so if you have an idea that will help us keep our heads in the right place post it here! Thanks :agree: :agree:

What a great idea, Archie!
I also find it helpful to "remember when." I think back to how despairing I felt when I was hungry all the time, or when I was confused about what to eat all the time. But especially I remember going through my closet and seeing all the things I couldn't fit into!
Most of which I now have given to my mother, since they are too big. That's a great thing to remember.

When I get down, I think about how good I looked in my favorite pair of old faded Levi Jeans. I still have them too. I will be able to wear them again, I will. Or just how good I looked in anything I wanted to wear. I guess Im not doing too shabby considering I have two children. It could be alot worst.

I remind myself that this is a life-style change, not a diet. My life and health have improved and things will only get better!

My main way of getting back on track is to think of how much better I'll feel. It sounds simple and corny, but if I have the choice of: a) eat well -> feel good, have a productive day tomorrow OR b) eat junk -> feel like crud, have insomnia, then have a hangover the next day"... put that bluntly, I usually choose a).

I keep four pictures on my refrigerator of when I started and where I am now. That sure does it for me. It is hard to believe what I looked like then and how I look and feel now. A whole world of difference.
