Rising Cholesterol

Well check this out !!!!

26/10/01 Fasting
tot chol 5.75
LDL 3.81
HDL 1.65
Tot/HDL = 3.48 (<5)
----------------------

24/07/02 non fasting
tot chol 6.5
HDL 1.34
LDL 4.34
Tot/HDL = 4.85
Trig = 1.8
--------------------

30/07/02 fasting
tot chol 6.42
LDL 4.54
HDL 1.38
tot/HDL 4.65
trig 1.1

as you can see my numbers have gone up . I was very disappointed when I got my results back . I got such a shock that I repeated them fasting to see if it would make a diference .It did but only a tiny difference.

I must say that I have been eating alot of saturated fats , up to about 3 weeks ago I was eating at least 10 eggs per week
( maybe more) on top of meat/cheese/cream .

It is scary , but from what I have just been reading , cholesterol alone is not risk factor .However in my case , although I do not have CHD , my father does .

It is weird ,

I am very pleased with my weight loss and my Blood Pressure has come down from 140/95 to 110/77. I feel great ,although I must admit that I have not been too good with exercise .

Dont know what to make of it all .

Should I eat less saturated fats ?

rising cholesterol

Hi Rob,
It's very frustrating this cholestrol stuff! Especially when you
hear of people who eleminate a few things from their diet or start
walking a few times a week and they have greatly reduced their
bad levels. My husband and I eat the same stuff (he cooks :p )
the only thing I do, that he dosen't, is drink one glass (sometimes more  ) of wine almost everynight. My cholestrol is 147 his is 275.
He had better cholestrol levels when he ate fast food and used
a lot of oil and real butter to cook with. I am a long time fat free
eater and when he married me he made the switch and his
cholestrol levels have been getting worse ever since.
So, now we are going to try the no carb, low carb way with a
little mixing of the Eat Right For Your Blood Type diet and see what happens.
I didn't help you at all did I? But at least you know you're not
alone.
Greentea
ps
We did the year at the gym and Meds. Neither helped

Rob--

To have a full perspective on the cholesterol issue, please read Dr. Uffe Ravnskov's The Cholesterol Myths. It will blow your mind.

My "bad" and "good" cholesterol went up after three months of low-carbing. Triglycerides went down a lot. Because of Dr. Ravnskov's persuasive book, I am staying the course, and I won't start anti-cholesterol drugs, as my doctor wants me to

Read the book and see for yourself. It is a thorough examination of all the anti-cholesterol claims and studies. The hypothesis, you'll see, is full of holes. Any other scientific claim would have been discarded decades ago for lack of evidence. The book is fully documented.

Good luck.

Sheldon
