How much fiber does the body need?

I am having a terrible time with constipation. I am trying to take the right things to get me moving but I either don't get enough or to much..

Thanks,
Kat

Get some flax meal. Tastes great and has about 14 g of fiber per serving. It does the trick!!!!!

How many net carbs are in the Flax meal?

rosey1 Thu, Mar-04-04 12:11

I have ground flax seed, 4 carbs, 4 fiber. (so 0 carbs) it is still in box unopened, just because i haven't been brave enough to try it yet.
i bought some fibercon tabs and they recommended 25-30 fiber a day. i could be wrong tho...i haven't tried those either. so i cant attest to the taste.

I've been taking fibercon and they have not worked for me either. I guess I will have to try the ground flax seed, it just sounds so nasty.

Thanks,
Kat

I really like ground flax seed, put a little cream and davinci or splenda on and microwave for some nice hot cereal!

You gotta eat it quick though, cause the flax gets kind of gummy if you wait too long after heating . . . :)

Also works well in muffins.

I LOVE flax meal! I have about 4Tbsp each morning with a little cream, or milk and water. It TOTALLY helps. Add a lil cinammon and 1 packet of Splenda and you're good to go. Can't say enough about flax meal!

Flax seeds are NOT a Zero carb food.
Flax seeds have 4.11 g carbs and 3.35 g fiber per Tbsp.

Try some FlaxOMeal - I LOVE the stuff and keeps me moving. Also Carbsense Granola has 25 fiber carbs per 1/2 cup - and it really tastes good!!

I was having the same problem. I am also taking Flax Seed, but in a pill form. Flax Seed Oil Capsules. The GNC has a bottle of 90 for $7.99. Take one daily and it does the trick for me. I am now back to being regular every day.

You probably all know this but remember to drink extra water and liquids when taking fiber...otherwise you can make the problem worse

I have the same problem. I was taking 15g KETO brand Fiber (apple berry flavor that you mix w/ water -very good tasting)(1 tsp = 5g fiber). It was working ok, but not "regularly". Went to see the Dr and she prescribed Zelnorm. It worked good but when I ran out of the samples she gave & went to have my prescription filled it was $75 for a 1 month supply ($75 AFTER what the insurance paid). Too much for me so I am going to go back to the KETO fiber mix. I may up it to 20g though. I asked my Dr about how much I should be getting daily and she said 30-35g sounded good.

I think around 25g is the minimum you should be getting.

Well, THIS body needs four heaping teaspoons of psyllium husk in about 12 ounces of water plus four litres of water each and every day.
The taste and texture of mucilage, but boy, howdy, does it work. After two weeks I'm my regular self.
I buy it in bulk (no pun intended) at the Health Food store.

okay, so how much flax is safe to consume in a day -- for carb reasons?

Anyone have any idea? I'm guessing this is a very good carb?

PineSlayer Sat, Mar-06-04 08:27

Flax Seed Oil caps will get/keep me regular???? Oh, please say it's so! I got down flax meal cereal this morning, but am NOT going to do it ever again. Never was a fan of any hot cereal. Hubby like's it though, so it won't get wasted.

How much flax oil would I need? Are there different dosages per capsule or are they all standard?

Thank you thank you thank you!!!
