Induction "acceptable foods" question

Hi!

I have been doing induction very strictly for about 6 weeks now. I am beginning to get a little bored with my usual foods, so I was browsing the Atkins website for ideas. I was looking at the sample menu for induction and had some questions.

http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/14-373858.html

Some ingredients included in the sample menu recipes are NOT listed under "acceptable foods" such as almonds, carrots, wine, crackers??, and Atkins Baking (which in almost EVERY recipe).

I don't really care about any of the items except the baking mix. It would be nice to use to change up my own menu a bit so I won't be so bored. Is the baking mix ok on induction?

Hi Cory...

In DANDR, Atkins says that anything that is not on the list of acceptable foods is not acceptable. And the baking mix is not on the list.

I'd like to suggest two things to you. First, check out the member recipe section in this forum which you can access here:

http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdis...&daysprune=&f=2

Also check out this section:

http://www.lowcarb.ca/low-carb-recipes.html

which is recipes by our resident gourmet chef Karen.

I know that you'll find lots of interesting things to eat in both sections; none of which require a baking mix.

Some favourites are:

Mock Danish

and Deep Dish Pizza Quiche

Wishing you the best LC success.

I disagree.

Where the strict, by-the-book induction for the first TWO weeks is not negotiable, I've had NO problems using the bake mix, or adding s few OWL foods, even though I keep my carbs at induction level, and have for quite some time.

At six weeks, I guess technically it would be OWL, even if you keep your carbs low.

The Atkins site is weird like that, isn't it? They should be more clear about actual induction-friendly menus.

I agree with potatofree... if you've been sticking to plan for 6 weeks, I think you should feel free to vary your menu even if you don't want to start adding up the carb increments yet. You want to make it livable (and fun) for yourself and controlled carb items are to be experimented with.

Good luck. :)
