egg beaters

Hello everyone,
I know you may ask, "Why not just stick to real eggs?" Well, its weird. I love eating these "99% real egg beaters" cause I just like the taste better. They are just are so much lighter and fluffier than scrambled real eggs. Well no wonder, the ingredients consist of 99% egg whites. Plus they are so easy to just whip up in a few sec's. My question is, is there anything wrong with me continuing to use these instead of real eggs? I know they are also fat free, and this goes against Atkins eating, but trust me..I get enough fat throughout my day where it really doesnt matter! And sometimes I will crumble up sausage and bacon into them to add in some fat. They are low in calories as well (good for me) and I use about 3 servings, 3 carbs. They are also full of vitamins and minerals. Do any of you guys out there love these egg beaters like me over real eggs? And am I ok eating this regulary? Thanks everyone!
Brittany

I think I saw this question here before, and whoever answered said they are fine to use :)

They are legal. :) Just add some fat when you cook and you're good to go!

I love egg beaters!!!! I figure that after I add everything else I love I make up for the fat I gave up in regular eggs!

HI Brit, I, also, LOVE eggbeaters- they are just like you said, light and fluffy and i also add stuff to mine too or will eat a sausage patty to it. They are also good with some chopped up green peppers and onions, at least i like em!! I am cutting out the eggs completely until i get my cholesterol down.

Real eggs are rich in choline, a chemical your brains uses (and that helps brain development in fetuses) and that might help memory. So you might want to supplement that. However, its also found in meat, but egg yolks are a very rich source.

Do you know if that is found in the white or the yolk of the egg?

I had been wondering about egg beaters myself. My mom uses them and I think they taste good for cooking and also for scrambled eggs, better than real eggs. It's good to see what you guys' responses were

I loved egg beaters too and had a tough time switching to eggs, but I recall reading something about the vitamins in egg beaters needing fat to be absorbed and it wasnt good to eat. I suppose if you add fat to it then it helps, or may help the absorbtion of the vitamins.

I always prefer something that grows in the ground or lives and breathes or at least occurs in nature, rather than something that you buy in a can, box or bag. But I don't know much about egg beaters, so I really can't say. I do remember Atkins saying something like "eggs are a perfect food..."

I've heard egg yolks mentioned as the richest source of it. Not sure how much, if any, is in the whites. But its a pretty inexpensive supplement.

They did a rat-maze memory test and the rats getting extra choline did better on the maze. The real interesting part is they were middle-aged rats. And baby rats whose moms consumed lots of choline had larger dendrites with better connections (or something like that).

So this middle-aged rat figures her memory can use all the help it can get!

hi brittany,

i usually use real eggs, but i've always preferred egg whites...and i'm assuming that egg beaters are about the same just with a little yellow in color. i think it's perfectly fine though. good luck!

blue skies,

Kimmy :p

I totally agree. One of the main reasons I stopped eating egg beaters.

If you are trying to cut back on calories why not increase your carb levels some and eat more veggies and lean meats or fish instead of the fake eggs?
