Green Beans

My husband just came home with a whole bunch of green beans from his grandma's garden. I just thought I'd double-check in the Atkin Book and they're not on the acceptable foods list. Yet, they're not on the unacceptable list either. Can I eat these?

Lisa N Sun, Jun-30-02 17:13

Hi Misty!

Yes, green beans are on the list of acceptable foods for induction. Page 126 of DANDR (newest version) lists the veggies other than salad veggies that are allowed on induction up to 1 cup per day in place of 1 cup of salad (ie 2 cups salad, 1 cup cooked veggie from the list). Cook up those green beans from grandma's garden and enjoy...preferably with lots of butter on them! :D

I must be going blind

Sorry, I must have overlooked it, I thought I could eat those.
No doubt, lots and lots of butter...ummm

Thanks for all the great ideas. I don't like vegetables, especially after eating them for years with ff spray butters, yuk! But on this diet, I've learned that when I was eating lc and no veggies, I wasn't losing weight. Since adding veggies the last couple of weeks with some tasty things like cheese, butter and bacon, they're not that bad. Not to mention, I've finally seen the scale move and stay there. I've lost 3 pounds.
Not much but considering I've been doing this for 3 months and haven't lost a pound or inch, it seems like my patience is finally paying off.

Not trying to be rude but,If you have not lost a pound on this plan in 3 months you can't be doing it right.....

We need to review your eating habits here,

Don't be shy, if you cheat say you do because there are plenty of people here that will not point the finger at you but will help you with ideas to get that scale moving.

1st off have you read the book?

I cannot stress to you the importance of that book

Did you follow induction to the absolute letter for 2 weeks?

Green beans are one of my favorites :) I normally microwave them for 4 mins with fresh garlic and butter.

Misty why not start up a journal online and list out your daily foods and such. At least that way you can keep track of what foods you are eating that could be causing your weight to stall.

We love green beans, too. My favorite way to cook them is to microwave them until they are partially cooked, then saute them with minced garlic and soy sauce. The only problem is that they are so good it's hard not to eat too much! ;)

Green beans are one of the few veggies that I will eat but I can't seem to find them here in Vancouver. I have tried grocery stores & a Produce markets with no luck. Anyone know where to get them up here?

Thank you

Candice

It's not quite the same, but there are lots of green beans in the frozen food section. I love French cut green beans but I'll eat ANY green or yellow beans.

I can't imagine a big grocery store NOT having the beans even in winter in Vancouver. So next time, ask someone in the store where they are. Sometimes they're off in a different kind of basket.

No, honestly, I don't cheat. If I did, I'd be more than willing to fess up!! I'd only be hurting myself. Please read the post I put in your journal, maybe together we can get to the bottom of this. LOL
Thanks for the responses and the questions, I can't figure it out either.

Candiflip,

Have you tried the Public Market at Granville Island? I don't remember for sure buying green beans there, but I can't imagine that we lived in Vancouver for fifteen months without green beans. They have just about every veggie imaginable, and the best produce I found in the city.

HTH,

Karla

Ya know I have thought about Granville Island but it is just so crowded. Parking is aways a pain..but where in the Lower Mainland isn't it? ;) I guess it is worth a shot. uuummmm....I remember last time I went there I picked up fudge, made fresh right there. *laughing*... Have to stay away from that area.
Thanks

Candice

Hi there Candiflip,

I don't know in which part of Vancouver you live but you should be able to find green beans in safeway or there is a place on west broadway, where you can find very fresh produce and a good variety.

I am not sure about the name of the store it's just a few blocks before Alma going west, just across Video Update.

enjoy:)
