Still Clear

I posted once before about my skin being clear since I started LCing. I am not sure exactly why. Maybe it's because I no longer eat yeast or maybe it is the suger, not eating any more processed foods. Or maybe our skin needed more protein in order for it to heal it self. Either way I am thrilled my skin is clear, no flaking and no redness. Normally both my legs are full and I have it in the cracks of my hands. Winter time was always the worst for me so that will be the big test. My diet now constists mainly of meat (no processed stuff, like lunch meat), cheese, salads, nuts, and fresh veggies.

This has worked for me and I hope others will get the same results.

That is a terrific improvement! There are a lot of things that improve with this method of eating. Probably a combination of better nutrition and lots of water. My arthritis improved during the first week of low-carbing. I no longer have to take anti-inflamatory drugs! Yea! That level of improvement has maintained for over 2 months now. I'll never go back :)

Kaki -

I have noticed an improvement in my skin as well - I never had much dryness, but I was terribly oily. I use to get so many breakouts, was on so many medications to control my acne. I have only been doing the WOL for about a month (or little more), but my skin is so clear! So maybe the protein helps regulate the skin... I always thought the sugar was my problem....

Glad you are seeing and feeling the results!

I believe there are many things going on.

The skin is the largest organ in the body and needs:

protein to build and repair cells
water to hydrate and carry off impurities
fat to plump up and keep cells flexible
vitamins to prevent aging and heal itself.

Sugar is not good for cells, it binds with cholesterol and scars cell walls making them rigid and inefficient at absorbing nutrients. Further high insulin levels speed cell aging.

A diet high in grains can cause allergic reactions which irritate the body.

Impurities are secreted through the skin and through urine. If it does not get enough water for sufficient elimination, the only path left is through the skin.

Low carbing provides sufficient protein, water, fat and, with supplements, vitamins along with the avoidance of raised insulin levels to promote healthy skin.

Didn't mean to sound like a lecturer!

fat is essential!

There's a reason they are called "essential fatty acids!" :)
Alot of doctors do believe now, as do I, that adequate dietary fat is the single most important thing for good skin--even if your skin is oily, as someone here mentioned, eating fat balances out the oil glands for some reason (I don't think anyone really knows why).
I know that, during one winter of my life where I was eating an EXTREMELY low-fat diet, my skin actually had red, raw patches on it, regardless of how much moisturizer I put on.

Mmm, I just noticed that this is a thread all on it's own. It really should have been linked with a thread for psoriasis. That is what I am clear of. I think you guys may be right in that it's the extra protein in my diet that is effecting my skin.
