What if I just cut out some foods?

What if I cut out the pototoes, white rice, white bread and sweets made with sugar? Would this be SB? Is this the main idea, or am I missing something. Right now I am limiting myself to one slice of bread daily (whole wheat). I eat maybe 6 Triscuit whole wheat crackers, and brown rice once a week maybe. I plan on adding whole wheat pasta once a week. So, if I cut out the white things above, and eat the whole wheat items, would I be doing SBs? Also, I'm drinking fat-free or skim milk--maybe one 8oz glass daily. I bought some whole wheat and soy flour and I plan on making some muffins and waffles. Am I on the right track?

So many questions, I know!

God Bless!

Marsha

PS I've got my husband on this too (we are former Atkins followers). My 8 year old son will be doing this with us. You should have seen him when I gave his Pop Tarts and some other goodies away the other night! I replaced these with other things he is enjoying. I let him pick out his fruits, and a few other things.

You are on your Way!

You are off to a good start Marsha. I love how you have just gleaned the essence of the program. Sometimes I see folks making it way too complicated.

I find that I have to keep my starchy carbs to 2-3 serving a day in order to lose weight. If you find you aren't dropping weight that's where i would look first.

I don't drink ilk. It seems to sloooooooow down my weight loss. But cheese, cream and yogurt aren't a problem for me. It varies from person to person though.

I think SB is a healthy way to feed the family. Have you seen SugarBusters for Kids? You can get it at the library. Good ideas for feeding little ones good healthy smart carb food.

I keep fruit and string cheese and yogurt on hand for my grandbaby. And I am experimenting with some new cookie and muffin recipes that use fruit juices as the sweetening agent (no artifical sweetner). So far they look promising.

I purchased and have already read SB for Kids! My son is about 20 pounds over weight. Tim and I have been on Atkins off and on since March. We could not put Andy on Atkins due to his age. I'm hoping that with all of the family switching to SB, we will have success. The most difficult thing is weining the two guys from the sweets. I'm already looking up some good sugar-free things to fix for them.

I hope we can just lose a few pounds each month! I'm not expecting the weight loss we had at the beginning of Atkins. The main reason for switching to SB is to help our son with his eating habits and weight. To get him into a heathy way of eating is my goal! And another goal is to have a healthy husband!
