GREEN BEANS YES

hi , one of my favorite foods that i keep on hand is fresh green beans. while everybody else is eating french fries , i take whole fresh green beans and fry in oil and drain ,salt and munch away.i've also rediscovered tuna salad for lunch. i hate it on other diets but it is great with a few pork rinds.i'm on my 18th day of dr adkins and have lost 10 lbs. then gained one back for a total of 9lbs.want to lose 50 more. wawtigress

I agree; these are yummy. This is what I like to order at a Chinese restaurant. They use garlic salt, and they fry the beans only until they turn dark green so they're still crunchy. Never thought to make these at home; I'll give it a try. :)

Re: Green Beans

What is the carb content and fiber content on beans? I haven't been eating them because I thought they were too high in carbs...I would love to try them fried!! :yum:

green beans carb count

on dr atkins induction ,it is listed as an under 10% veggie so i've been eating them all along with my salad. the carb count is 3.9 per 1/2 cup and the dr. says you can have either 3 salads or 2 salads and 2/3 c. of listed 10%veg. so i chose green beans and sometimes i have coleslaw made with mayo, mustard, black and red pepper and horseradish. there's a lot of variety out there if you think about it . i always plan in advance and prepare if need be so my lunch or whatever is ready. on tuna fish -if i plan to have for lunch i make ahead of time so i can take out . if i wait to make then it is too tempting to get something else if your tired or just got home.thanks for all the replies about the green beans.glad to help out.wawtigress :yum:

Green Beans! :D

My favorite veggie. My mom always cooked them with a little bacon mixed in. Yum!

Sh'ra Mon, Dec-10-01 16:33

hmmmm...fried green beans - never thought of that. :)

green beans and more

if you think the green beans are good try brocolli and cauliflower florets, frozen or fresh fried in oil also try parsley. if you use frozen thaw in drainer and get the water out.i had for supper last night and they were great. check out the under 10% list of veggies on dr. atkins list in his book. wawtigress

What kind of oil?

Do you all use just plain cooking oil or are you using some kind of flavored oil (like olive)? These do sound yummy though - might have to expand beyond the canned kind!

YES on the fried broclli and cauliflower!!!
I cut it in smaller pieces, fry, and use it on my cheese steak sandwich! :D ( no bread sandwich, that is) It's very filling and tasty!!

Olive oil or regular oil...

I've tried them both ways; their both good. That's how mom makes them also...ought to know 'cuz she showed me :daze: Hi mom!!

I added some garlic and green onion to my green beans...they were great!! Now, I need to try the broccoli-cauliflower rendition. Sounds even yummier since I like those veggies even better than green beans.

I'm also starting to go back to the 'good-old-fashioned' cheesy veggies...one of my son's favorites, which I stopped making due to the low fat taboo...OOOoooooo...NOT!! ANYMORE!!

"Give me veggies...and give me cheese...YUM!!"

:D
