Recipes using "Sugar Twin"
Hi Karen,
I live in Australia and am not sure what "sugar twin" is. I really want to trying making your NY cheesecake....is "sugar twin" a US brand name? Is there a substitute product that I can use? cheers, Jayne |
Hi Jayne, welcome!
I'm not Karen, but I can help you with this one. ;) Canadian Sugar Twin is the brand name for sodium cyclamate - not available here. We can substitute with Splenda - either granular or tablets. Tablets have the great advantage of being almost devoid of carbs whereas granulated Splenda has 24 carbs per cup. All the best to you matey. And do check out our Aussie/NZ forum. :) :rose:Rosebud:rose: PS: Sugar Twin is "spoon for spoon" the same as Splenda, so Splenda can be directly substituted. The tablets as you probably know are each the equivalent to 1 teaspoon sugar, so for North American recipes, 48 tablets = 1 cup sugar. |

hi Roz, Not that I'm an expert on what is and isn't available in Australia , but I have been keeping tabs on cyclamates, and thought it was available there?? (sweetener #952) http://www.dav.org.au/htdocs/diet_nutrition/as.htm Or is it only available in pre-made "stuff" but not as a tabletop sweetener?? Doreen |

Yep, just the premade stuff, usually along with saccharine. Not available as a tabletop sweetener. Urrgh, I've just been reading the nonsense that link you give says about "high protein diets." Not only wrong, but proven wrong if they would only look. Roz |

But of course. It's a national diabetes site run by dieticians. Doreen |

http://www.dav.org.au/htdocs/diet_nutrition/as.htm Research of what? Compared with what? Wouldn't it be interesting if they did some actual research on diabetics who follow low carb high fat diets as compared with their high carb low fat diets. They'd be in for a very big shock. I live for the day when it happens... Roz |
