Confessions of a sugar addict

Hi all!
I've been lurking around so I thought it was time to say hello. This is day 10 of lc woe for me and I can't believe I've made it so far.

I had to face the facts that I am addicted to carbs. I had been working out 5xwk faithfully with no results. I've been the low fat hi carb route several times with no results. I happened to see Dr. Atkins on a local show and decided to read his book.

OMG-he was talking about me with the sugar cravings, hormone imbalance and lack of results! I used to eat iced tea mix, hot cocoa mix directly out of the packets just to get the sugar taste! I always snuck candy into the house so DH wouldn't see me with it; and I could never eat just one cookie or piece of candy-i could not stop until it was all gone. I could eat plain bread with nothing on it just to eat it. Cookie dough-ha! many a batch never got baked because i ate it all-raw!!!!

I'm an addict-oh the shame-but thank God for the solution!I was headed down the road to diabetes-it runs in my family-

I REFUSE TO GO THERE! I can and will do this!
God Bless!

Hello Kat. Welcome aboard. I pray that you will find all the help and encouragement that you need as you begin your new journey.

Hi Kat - I hear you on the hot chocolate packs. How about cake frosting right from the tub? Done that one many times.

I hope you're enjoying the "freedom" now, even though it takes a while to get mentally used to it. It gets easier, and you'll probably find that your tolerence goes down. You'll finally know what other people meant by "too sweet". :)

Best of luck!

Hi Kat!

I just had to answer you- my name is Kat also, and I am a nurse too- worked in home care many years (now teaching CNA's) I also had a real scare with diabetes. I felt sleepy after a Coke and Twinkie-type lunch, checked my BS at work, and it was over 300! No way! Not goin' there!

Raw cookie dough? You mean there is ANOTHER way to eat cookies?

Hang in there gal, you can do it! I am also a carb addict, and a yo-yo dieter, even on Atkins. This time is different, 'cause I've worked on the "head thing" and I have made low carb eating and exercise a new way of life. To date, I've lost 84 pounds rather quickly, with not much suffering. I've stayed at induction levels since May, feel and look good, and really enjoy what I am eating. It is simple, if you make it simple.

I hang out in the Triple Digit Club of this forum, where SherryB and I have started a thread to work on the Dr. Phil questions and dig out some of our cranial fat! I have a journal, Utah Kat's Litter Box- please come visit me there- I'd love to hear more of your story, fellow kat.

Here is the URL for my journal: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...10&pagenumber=1

Here is the URL for the Dr. Phil thread: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...?threadid=67871

If the links don't work, you may have to copy and paste the whole thing into your browser window.

Keep up the good work!
Hugs,
Kat
