Please Help Me!!!!!

Hi, I cant get into the hidden carb counter deal, so could someone please check something for me? I would like to see if the bacon I use has hidden carbs. Here it goes, serving size 2 slices, CALORIES; 90 calories from fat: 60 TOTAL FAT; 7g, SATURATED FAT; 2.5g CHOLESTEROL; 15mg, SODIUM; 240mg TOTAL CARBS; 0g, PROTEIN; 5g, I hope thats all the info, if I put to much I'm sorry, I didn't know what the spec's were. The label says cured with water, sugar, sodium phosphate sodium erythorbate sodium nitrate.

Sabrina, without even doing the math I can tell you the answer is yes. The good news; if it says 0 carbs then you can safely assume that the carbs are less than 0. Bacon is usually .3g per slice. If you see "Sugar" listed as an ingredient you can safely assume there are some carbs. If you want an accurate list of the breakdown of an item of food, try www.fitday.com. With bacon you must be sure to choose cooked or raw as the calories and fat will differ. Using the hidden carb counter you get 1.4g carbs per two slices.

Thanx Nat!

Thanks. So basically bacon is something that you should'nt pig out on because its not carbless? Also I been reading that alot of people use mayo which says 0 carbs, under the ingredients it also says sugar, so that too probably has hidden carbs right? What types of things besides sugar, would be an indicator to me that there is a good possibility that there are hidden carbs?

Hi Sabrina,

Our calculator shows 1.45 grams of carb instead of zero.

Besides using fitday.com, a good "tool" - in fact a must have tool - is Corrinne T. Netzer's Complete Book of Food Counts. It was my constant caompanion when I first started this WOL.

Yes, Karen .. agreed. You don't need to be online to use it, and there's listings for fast food restaurants and name brands too.

The 5th edition, published in 2000 is $7.50 US or $9.99 Cdn.

Hi Doreen

Thank you. Does this book contain accurate carb counts? I mean does it have products listed with the hidden carbs so I will know? It just disturbs me when they put a specific # on a pkg. and then come to find out that there are hidden carbs which up's the g cnt. Thats why I was asking if this book does the hidden thing checking. If so is this book available online as well in a bookstore? Sabrina
