Induction - Need something sweet ! - Suggestions Please !

Hi All
It's been a few months since I have been to the forum.
A friend of mine who comes from a family history of heart problems had a massive heart attack and I have been traveling out of town helping the family with his in-home care a few times a week. The family that I am helping out do not eat low carb - they eat healthy a lot of fruit and legumes and other things that are healthy - just high in carbs.
I have been yoyoing on the diet and my weight has also been in the yoyo mode these last few months. My weight hasn't went down on the scale - in fact today I weighed in at a pound over since my last visit here - I decided to do induction again for a couple of weeks and am sure struggling with not eating anything sweet - I am a real sweet ahololic !! What saved me from totally going off the wagon these last few months was that I discovered the Atkins Endulge Wafer Crisp Bars (4 grams effective carbs), and the Atkins Morning Start Bars ( 2 grams effective carbs) - and they are both absolutely great !! With all my traveling back and forth eating these bars really helped me to keep the cheating on a lesser scale.
The thing is now that I am trying to do the induction again I was hoping for some suggestions on something to eat to satisfy this sweet tooth of mine.
Does anyone have any suggestions on something sweet that you can eat while on induction - I am assuming it is not a good idea to eat the Atkins bars while doing induction ??
If anyone has any suggestions I would sure appreciate it!!
Thanks ! Sharon

Hi Sharon and welcome back! Sounds like you are being a real angel to help your friends! I was a complete sugar junkie before starting Atkins so I understand what you mean. I have to say though, as hard as it was, I think it worked better for me to do a clean induction and not have the sweet stuff. I was rewarded with not wanting the sugar after I got through the induction. I have lost my craving for it and it's a total suprise to me! I never would have believed it. I am almost 8 weeks into the diet and will occasionally have an Atkins shake which seems really sweet to me now. I think the general concensus here is that the shakes and bars are not good for induction but some people aren't bothered by them. I guess you have to find what works for you. Anyway, best of luck to you!

What I like is my imitation cheesecake. You go to the store and buy some cheese (Baby Bell [aka laughing cow] mini original cheese wheels) and smear some low carb jam on it. Tastes just like cheesecake about 1.5 carbs total.

That's (obviously) 1.5 ish grams per wheel, including the jam.

Indulgence

When I really want sweets, I make whipped cream with an artifical sweetner. It is soooooooo yummy and you just feel like you are getting a special treat. (Since any other diet you'd not be getting someting as rich as real whipped cream). Plus it's got enough fat to make you feel full.

Lots of luck,
Nan

Thanks for the replies everyone !!
I will give your suggestions a try.
I am trying to limit the sweet stuff - cause I really want induction to work - but it is so hard for me !! If I could just have a little something sweet - I think I might be able to make it through the 2 weeks.
I am just on my 2nd day of Induction -
Isn't it sad - that 2 weeks seems like such a long way to go.
I'm glad for this encouraging forum !
Thanks All !!
Sharon

You can try sugar-free Jello; the aspartame affects some people though. I like to mix that with heavy cream for dessert. Also try sugar free Jello pudding powder (chocolate fudge) mixed with heavy cream.
Good luck!!

What Brand?

Hi,

I'm new here and still on Induction (been here for about 3 months) I was wondering what brand of Heavy Cream do you use? I can't find any here that is less than 1 carb per TBspoon.

Thanks,
DD

Heavy cream is 7 net carbs per cup, or almost .5 per Tb. Maybe you are using cream with some kind of additive to thicken in? Look on the label for one that contains nothing but cream.

I make the chocolate peanut butter candy and instead of putting it into muffin tins I put it into a plastic ice cube tray and each piece of candy comes out to roughly 2.5 grams carb.

I like cottage cheese with cinnamon and splenda.
Or Cottage cheese with orange extract and a splenda packet.
Sometimes I add a drop of cream also.

Another one for the peanut butter lovers.
1 T Almond butter and splenda and about 1.5T cream mix like crazy then all of a sudden it changes consistancy.
Yummy. Jag
