VOTE FOR!!! Spicy Bacon Prawns/Shrimp!

Spicy Bacon Wrapped Prawns
approx 2 carbs (fitday) w/out salad

4 Prawns (U-5) or --substitute shrimp of choice
4 Slices Peppered Bacon
1 T. Olive Oil
2 cloves garlic minced(I LOVE IT!) --substitute 2 heaping teaspoons of garlic puree or powder, adapt if you don't like to chop/press fresh garlic
1 t. chili powder
1 t. paprika
1 t. onion powder
1/2 t. red pepper flakes
pinch salt
8 toothpicks

Soak toothpicks in a bowl of water.
Clean shrimp and pat dry.
Put ingredients 3-8 in a bowl and stir. Add unpeeled shrimp and place infridge to marinate for 1 hr or even overnight is OK for more flavor.
Partially cook bacon in microwave until almost cooked, but not crispy. Wrap bacon around shrimp, securing each end with a toothpick.
On a greased broiler pan, broil each side for about 3 minutes, depending on the side of your shrimp/prawn. THe bigger, the more time!

I served this with a bed of romaine tossed in a light romano vinagrette and sauteed baby squash.

Sauteed Baby Squash
12 oz. bag Baby Squash (can be purchased at Albertsons)
1 slice bacon
1 T. butter/olive oil
1/2 t. red pepper flakes
dash of S&P
1 lemon wedge

Snip corner of bag. Microwave for 2-4 mnutes depending on your microwave. Mine only needed about 2 min.
Snip bacon into tiny pieces, cook till crispy, add butter spices & veggies, stir for about 3 minutes to brown slightly. Squeeze lemon to bring out flavor. Voila!

ENJOY!

New to cooking shrimp...

Deshukel,

At what point during preparation are the shrimp peeled? Do you peel back the bacon and then peel the shrimp? Or, peel the shrimp and then broil with the bacon?

Sorry for the beginner question, but I'm a beginner at cooking seafood.

Thanks,
Carol

peel the shrimp right away so they can absorb the flavors from the spices. Good luck!!

Deshukel, I'll let you know when I try it. :) I was on the verge of fixing dinner when I saw your recipe. Rather than mess up the dish and peel the shrimp at the wrong time, I cobbled together a sort of buffalo shrimp dish instead - boiled the shrimp with Old Bay seasoning and made a dip from a mixture of butter, Frank's and some parmesean cheese. (This was pretty good!)

I promise to make a trip to buy more shrimp later in the week and try your recipe then, because it does look delicious!

Thanks.

Tonight's the night!

Deshukel,

Bought four hugh prawns and four large sea scallops tonight for dinner. DH and I will be eatin' good!

I'll let you know how it turns out. :)

Deshukel, you, my dear, are a kitchen goddess. Those were fantastic! My DH does not get excited about much, so trust me when I say that his comment - "This doesn't suck" - is very high praise in his book. We will be having these again soon!

I'm discovering all sorts of wonderful things to do with shrimp! Why in the world would anyone want to eat low-cal/low-fat??

Thanks again, you kitchen minx!
