Hi - I've been a little shy about posting.

My name is Amanda - I have been reading posts on the forum for a month or so, but have not been brave enough to post.

I was thrilled to find the forum and read about people who are having experiences similar to mine.

I have a question. I read once that you should drink one liter of water per fifty pounds you weigh. Has anyone else heard this? That's a heck of a lot of water, at least for me.

Anyway, glad to be here and on the road to a thinner, healthier me.

Hi,

I've heard that too, which sounds a bit scary. But when I think about it, I used to drink SEVERAL 32 oz diet cokes a day and it didnt seem strange at all.

Now I buy a quart bottle of water and then refill it when it empties -- I've gotten to the point I can drink 3 a day. And I'm way down on my soda consumption.

Hi Amanda--

That seems like a lot to me, too...but most of us have been doing that (or darn close to it) for quite a while. It's part of what makes the Atkins WOE work so well. Part of the reason is that the foods in this diet act as diuretics, and it's necessary to make plenty of water available so you don't become "volume depleted" and dizzy. In addition, your bloodstream carrries away a lot of the waste products that are produced when your fat cells release them. Large amounts of water aid the kidneys in processing your blood and keeping it "fresh" to carry away another load of these toxins. The final reason is that water tends to "fill us up" with no carb penalty...and that's not a bad thing at all.

Keep drinking your water...your body will thank you.:)

Hi Amanday...so happy you got brave enough to join us!!!!

MisterE Fri, Sep-19-03 09:21

Welcome. I know about the water drinking. I should have called myself "MisterP".

Ellen-mom Fri, Sep-19-03 13:30

ROFL MisterE. I know what you mean. The gals in my office have a running joke about my trips "down the hall".

mudknife Fri, Sep-19-03 14:01

Ditto what geo53562 said. I probably drink the same amount of water in a day now that I used to drink in coffee and diet pop before this WOE. You couldn't pay me to drink water then.

Now I can tell the difference between filtered and bottled water and that crummy unfiltered stuff that runs out of my kitchen sink.

Welcome!!

Water water water... What can I say? I used to drink 2-2 litres of Pepsi a day, plus a litre of milk, or more. I NEVER drank water. Ewwwwww, I would say. It has no taste! (read: has no sugar or starch.. :p)

But now, I drink close to 6 litres a day (a gallon and a half) MINIMUM now. Just get it cold, and gulp it at each meal, and sip in between. :)

Good luck, and you have found the best place on the internet for this WOL. :)

Diana

Welcome Amanda. With the folks here on this board, you'll soon feel very comfortable posting.

I spent the week weaning myself of Diet Pepsi (I'm a complete addict) and found that hey - water's not so bad. I'm not as good as everyone else but I'm doing two litres a day and it definitely has to be cold!

big_mama Fri, Sep-19-03 18:53

Welcome Amanda! I am new here too, but this forum keeps me straight :D I too am drinking more water then ever, it seems like the more I drink the quicker I lose!

Ilovemykid Fri, Sep-19-03 19:29

Yes, I believe it is a miracle with me not drinking pop anymore! I would drink at least 2 full 2 ltrs a day easy! On days when we would have pop outside in the cooler, I could gulp 10 cans in nothing flat. I say only 10 because It would be around that time where I would hear people start to say "Hey,, where did all the pop go?" so I knew I better slow down. I always told everyone, I could live off of pop. If they took away the food, that was fine, but never take away my pop! Thank God things have changed, to me, that was the hardest part. I believe losing this weight will not be easy, but I know if pop had to go, nothing can be as hard as that... at least to me anyway.

Always knew I was strange! :P I don't like ice water, or even super cold, no ice added water! Assuming it isn't Long Beach or Anaheim water (those of us who have gone to Disneyland and tried to drink the water there know what I mean), I like my water around cellar temperature--I guess that's about 55 F. Anaheim water I don't like at all, at any temperature.
