step counters
I'm new here as of now, so forgive me if I posted this in the wrong place :p
I got one of those step counters today w/ my adult happy meal(Mcdonald"s) It said you should be taking 10,000 steps aday..Wow was I shocked when I didn't even make half that and thats w/ cleaning following 2 kids around and walking a dog! Anyone else have/use this thing??? |
HI DarthRaidr - I don't have one, but I have seen the research about the 10,000 steps. It is very impressive - not impressive even to move me off the couch to actually DO 10,000 steps but it does have me walking more so perhaps I will make 10,000 steps per day soon. The research says people did more walking counting steps than distance.

I used it for a contest at work... most days i average mid to high 6000's. I did a lot of shopping and dog walking one day and made it to 13,300's and another day 10,000's. It's not easy to get that high every day!! I don't use it anymore, competition over.. I just make sure I stay active.

I have one. My son *borrowed* it the other day to see how many steps he takes in a day (BTW he is 19, tall, slender and very active)
I am going to have to swipe it back from him to see how many steps I take on my 30 minute walk outside. |
The last day I've had under 10,000 steps was Feb 2. Since mid-April, I've been averaging about 16,000 steps per day. Switching from trying to hit 10,000 on the average, to making it my daily minimum has helped speed my weight loss.

I find using the step counter to be very motivational. On the last dog walk of the day if I find that I'm not near the magical 10,000 steps - we keep walking. I don't usually even make it to 10,000 before either I or the dog poop out :D Am I walking enough steps??? All I know is I'm walking a whole lot more than I was before this WOL
