Ketostix vs. scale

Please help!!! I am in day 9 of induction. The first 5 days lost 9 lbs, then gained back 3 in the last 4 days. Have not changed diet. Ketostix have always registered in the moderate area without fail. I am so addicted to my scale, though, and I am getting really frustrated. Also, I should be starting TTM today or tomorrow. Can that be a factor? I am trying so hard, I just wish my scale would register that. Any advise?

Most women gain a couple pounds before/during TOM. Also go by how your clothes feel not the scale.

addicted to scale?

Let me just say "naughty! naughty! naughty!".. hehe

One thing we'd all like to do is step on the old scale each day and see another pound gone. But that scale we all try to love, doesn't love us so much. It only seems to cause frustration when over-used. Dr. Atkins book says that once a week is best, as weight fluctuates each day. I find (and I'm sure a lot of people here agree), that using the scale by itself is NOT an accurate way to determine progress.

To check progress, use several things! 1) scale (only 1-2x week!) 2) tape measure 3) clothes that 'used' to fit. do they fit better or worse? 4) skin fold caliper 5) body fat tester - aka electronic handheld gadget that determines body fat based on electrical resistance. and lastly 6) water submersion. highly accurate, but expensive and cumbersome.

Hope this helps! :)

I guess my clothes are a little looser, I just am so used to looking at the scale, not a stick.

IF your sticks register ketons is is safe to assume that you are not gaining weight (not burning carbs). However it doesn not mean you are losing weight, it only means you are burning fat, either the fat you eat, and/or your own body fat...
Ketons means you are avoiding carbs, the scale tells you you are losing weight, and you pants tell you you look better... :)

Thanks coolcat...Isnt it sad how dependent I have become to my scale in the past 9 days. I used to avoid it like the plague. It has just been so hard, I am still craving sweets so bad. This forum has been great, though. Now I can see that the advantage bar I had can possibly make me crave sweets.

I have to find a tape measure, hopefully I will see some changes.
