Revelation!?!?!

Today, in the check out line, I noticed a cook book(let) for diabetics. Don't remember the exact words, but the headline was something like " don't say 'NO' to sugar any longer". I didn't spent the $3.75 to buy the thing, just briefly glanced at the first paragraph of the editorial. It proclaimed good news for diabetics:

Since your body reacts to sugar exactly the same way it reacts to other carbs (well, it's true), there's no need to avoid sugar (sure.......).

That's as far as I could read. If anything that makes sense should have followed, I missed it (was my turn to get rung up).

My suggestion for the low carb community - don't waste your time cooking veggies - just sprinkle some sugar on you steaks........

Very sad but true. For years they have been putting diabetics on a low-fat/high-carb diet. They trust the drugs (glucophage) to keep the blood sugar low inspite of all the carbs. Now they know on the glycemic index, potatoes are no different than sugar, so the new guidelines say that diabetics can eat sugar.

The good news is that diabetics can choose from the standard low-fat/high-carb diet and a high monounsaturated fat diet.

Did we just step through the looking glass into Wonderland? Let me get this straight: what you're saying is that, since they now realize that potatoes are just as bad for diabetics as sugar, instead of telling them not to eat potatoes, they tell them it's ok to eat sugar?  Can you say criminally irresponsible?

Of course the pharmaceutical companies, the doctors, and the hospitals will all benefit financially if they can convince diabetics that up is down and day is night. (I really never used to be this cynical!)
