my brother the "health nut"...warning, vent inside!

Ok, my brother was down from seattle this weekend for a class reunion, so of course the whole family got together on his last night here. (sadly we rarely get together unless it's christmas, etc.) anyway, i was talking to my sister and she told me that her husband is doing atkins (yea!) and that she is currently reading the book! so i'm telling her how much i love the WOE, etc, and i could just see my brother mentally rolling his eyes.

let me just say that this is a man who has NEVER had an ounce of fat on him and has no idea what it means to be overweight. anyway, he's like all "just eat whole grains, low fat, etc." --you all know the speel---gggrrrrrr.......

anyway, this has given me new determination to prove him wrong! LOL

thanks for listening!

Must be the day for that argument! I had it with my mom this morning for the millionth time: Low fat vs Low carb. She still sticks to her guns even though she's seen me not lose on low fat vs lose on Low carb. I've about given up trying to convince her!

I don't try to convert or convince anybody any more. The results speak louder than words anyway. When it comes down to it, there's only 1 person that needs to be convinced that this WOE is the best way to go...YOU.

Yeah, this must have been the weekend for family "arguments"...

I saw my brother at a family reunion this weekend. I haven't seen him in about 2 years, and since then he has gained about 50 pounds -- he's probably close to 300 pounds. We all (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) sat around and the subject of my eating habits came up. I went on and on about how Atkins is changing my life, and my brother said, "I just can't give up ONE more thing. I've given up cigarettes and drinking -- if I had to stop eating too I'd go crazy." So I tried, I REALLY tried to tell him that Atkins is a way of life, and that I have NEVER felt deprived since day 1. But he wouldn't listen.

I'm worried about his health, and that of his children, who are all following in his footsteps, weight-wise. I recommended that he buy the book. Hopefully he will listen to me (for once in his damn life -- but THAT'S another story)...

I have a freind that's the same as your Bro. After he has seen 60 LBS gone in 4.5 months he now says that if I can keep it off for more then two years he will say it's good. So I'm going to prove it to him.. That's what you need to do, show him how good it is..

You know I read another post on here earlier about how someone started Atkins on a bet fully expecting to fail and "prove" Atkin's didn't work. Perhaps a friendly family wager might be the trick.

That was me lol definitely the best bet I've ever lost!! Challenge him to prove that Atkins doesn't work by sticking to strict Induction for 2 weeks :)

i don't think he really doubts it will work, i think it's more like he has the attitude of "oh, another fad diet...when will you people learn? just eat healthy!"

ok, DUH! i AM eating healthy! i eat more veggies now than i ever have, plus i have cut out my sugars and all of that processed stuff!

***sigh*** just wait, i'll show him! (i really do LOVE my brother, but sometimes he thinks he knows everything! LOL) i guess that is typical of big brothers... :)
