how many carbs in slaw
hey,
i was just wandering how many carbs are in a cup of slaw. i had some for supper tonight. i know people fix it different ways but i did not make it so if anyone has a general idea of the carb count please let me know. |
Did you eat the whole cup?
www.fitday.com lists, for "fast food" slaw, 17 g carbs, 0 g fiber. Home made is 14.89 g carbs, 1.8 g fiber. A third type is 13.45 g carbs, 3.51 g fiber. It's a good idea to join Fitday (it's free) and log your food there. It will keep a running total for you for all nutrients. Joan |
yes i ate the whole cup. i think it was ok though. i did not have any the rest of the day.
i just could not understand fit day and how it works. i will look at it again latter. thanks so much |
It depends on the ingredients. According to DANDR, 1/2 cup of cabbage has 4 grams. I make coleslaw with mayonnaise, cider vinegar, salt and pepper. So, 1 cup would be 8 grams. Most restaurant slaws have sugar included so would be higher.

And that's why the ones listed in Fitday are so high in carbs - for the added sugar to counter the tartness from vinegar, if it's used. When I make slaw, I use good ole vinegar and oil, and then spices. That way I know the amount of carbs going in there. (I'm of Italian heritage, and Italians don't use mayo or salad dressing - none of that "white gunky stuff" as I used to call it as a kid. Tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, any "salad" gets the Italian treatment in my house.) Joan |
I buy a packaged cole slaw that has 5 carbs per cup, but then there's the dressing to add, which is 2.5 carbs per TBSP.
