Any of you guys found cheese a problem?
I've been low carbing for about 4 weeks - lost nothing.
I've read that cheese can stall weight loss so I'm going to cut it out from today. I will miss it, but as long as I can still cook with cream and butter then it shouldn't be so bad. I thought it was the odd glass of red wine, but I lost when I had that (a llb down) and re-gained it when I gave it up. I am trying to work out in my head what could be causing the problem and I think when I lost, on those days I didn't eat cheese. I expected a slow, steady weight loss because of my history, my age and the medication I take but....nothing? I know if I don't eat anything at all I lose - so, even with the problems I have with meds/history etc I should be able to drop at least a pound a week. Sorry for the rant, just feeling very down - carrying this blubber around is making me very depressed. I just want to get rid of it :help: |
What is your state with meds, health, age and so on?
There comes a time for many women when calories also start to count, unfortunately. I'm in my 50's, menopausal, treated hypothyroid, but weight loss is near impossible unless I drastically reduce calories too. You might ask, well why bother with low carb? I do it for appetite control and health reasons. It's simply much harder to eat carb AND reduce calories. Far easier to do it low carb. |
Hi Nancy,
I'm in surgical menopause, taking hrt, steroids, beta blockers and I'm 54 - but, I know I can lose weight if I don't eat anything. and I don't tend to re-gain because my calorie count was always low prior to low carb. Just hard to stop eating and working full time.... I know what you mean about the advantages of low carbing, I already feel it. My head is clearer, I feel mentally stronger, no more blood sugar ups and downs... so, am just going to experiment. Atkins says cheese is a culprit and so do many other low carb experts so I'll cut it out & see if that works - I eat a lot of cheese, so it's possible that's what's stalling me. If that doesn't work, then maybe I'll cut out the cream too... though, that will be more difficult (I love my decaf and cream) |
Sounds like you also have a lot of factors that can make weight loss really difficult. Cutting out the cheese will most likely cut down your calories too. So hard to say exactly which worked, if it does. :)
I've been finding some really excellent, low carb fish recipes and using them with Hake, which is like the lowest fat fish ever. :p A big serving of Hake Veracruz is 150 calories and is super filling... tastes awesome too! http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/f...uz-Style-108045 |
I love fish.... and the low cals with it!
What do you do for your weight loss plan in terms of calories and is it successful? |
I'm still experimenting. I've tried JUDDD (low carb version), which alternates low calorie days with higher calorie days. I've also done the HCG diet.
I'm having some really terrible issues with my metabolism right now and it's a struggle to maintain, much less lose weight. Right now I'm not alternating low/high calories. I'm just trying to lower my daily calorie intake. That fish veracruz recipe is awesome. :D I just use some sort of mild white fish in place of red snapper and omit the jalapenos. |
Feel a bit weird giving advice as a Newbie but the last time I did Atkins I found that too much cream and Splenda stopped me loosing weight, I had no problem with the butter though. Best of luck.

You didn't have any problems with cheese? I think I'd find it hard to give up all dairy - but could manage with either cheese or cream. |
Hm. Interesting. Do input your food into an online calculator to see where you are at. It's easy to think you are doing pretty good on calories, then find out otherwise from a calculator. Guess how I know that? :o

Also, cheese plugs up the works for me. I do much better without it (except for a little parm here and there)
Here's a link to what Atkins has to say about calories: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showpost...9&postcount=249 |

Well I ate soft cheese not hard, I filled chicken breasts with it, made little parcels of it wrapped in parma ham for when I needed a snack etc. I didnt give up butter though or olive oil. Im only starting back into low carb after about two years so I'll keep you posted. Cream was a definate issue for me last time - we'll see this time round :) |
I have issues with cheese. No idea why. I just have to limit it.
|
I think a lot of cheese slows me down, too, and I can tell you from years on this board, that it's not unusual to hear people say that about cheese and/or dairy.
Have you tried adding some coconut oil to your diet? |
