this might be a dumb ?...

Can this diet be used as a jump start-say a month or so, or do you start gaining weight when you start eating carbs? (even is moderate amounts) Thanks.

I've read that each gram of carbohydrate that you eat will cause you to retain 4 grams of water.

So, yes, you would definately gain the weight back if you suddenly added in lots of carbs. (say going from 20 to 100)

The low carb way of eating has more benefits than low calorie plans in that you will never be hungry and that you can eat a variaty of foods and be healthy. You do not have to stay at the lowest carb intake forever, just for 2 weeks, though you may choose to stay at the lower levels longer if you have a lot to lose.
Ideally, a person should be able to add in carbs gradually from healthy sources such and more vegetables, seeds, nuts and berries. If your body can handle it you can then go on to adding in starchy vegetables and grains.

Low calorie diets make you lose more lean muscle mass and should be avoided.

no such thing as a dumb question! You could use Atkins as a jump start to lo-calorie, but I think you'll find cutting carbs is a lot more satisfying than cutting calories.

Fats are what keep your appetite satisfied; when you cut the calories you will cut the fats and you will be hungry. Is there anything more uncomfortable than being hungry all the time??

Let us know how you do! This forum is here to listen, and help.

think of atkins as breastmilk....lol

the first three days of life, a mothers colostrom is very thin in consistancy, and with time it becomes thicker, fattier, and what happens the baby is sustained for longer and longer periods of time, (ok so ive made it simplistic to make a point) but i find when i try to do atkins with low or lower fat choices the pounds dont come off as easily, plus im always looking to "snack" when i have the higher fat choices, i feel more content, more relaxed and all round more happier.

good luck to ya'll
