What SSRI do you take?
 

Hi All!

I am at a point because of insurance that I need to start taking a new SSRI. What I was wondering is what SSRI are you taking and how is it working with your Atkins plan?? I'm currently taking Lexapro and our new insurance won't pay for it. I switched from Zoloft as it wasn't really working for me. I would really like to hear from you that are in the same boat and have to take SSRI's. Thanks!!

Well I take Zoloft and the only other one I've tried is PAxil and that made me feel yucky...still not undepressed and gave me sexual side effects.... So Zoloft works pretty well for me. I have heard some people on here take wellbutin with good results :wave:

I take wellbutrin, and have for quite some time. Hasn't caused a problem with weight loss (that would be my own dumb fault). It's worked well for me.

Wellbutrin here as well (its technically an SDRI though)

I take Celexa. I have two insurance carriers (Liberty and MediPlan), plus the basic medical that is provided by the province. I have never had a problem getting it covered, although they will only dispense 30 days worth at a time. In some cases, your physican can make a special request to continue coverage or transfer it to another carrier if he can prove that discontinuing it would cause undue trauma and distress.

I hear lexapro is great...have you called your insurance company to find out what lame excuse they have for not covering it? Your doc may be able to give you a different dx so they will cover it.

As for the types of SSRIs/meds...it depends on your diagnosis and what works for you. I've been on many, and I know that the world is much safer when I'm on something that works. :devil: After my last brilliant plan that I'd save $$ by going off them <snip twisted version of Dr. Suess' "Oh, the Places You'll Go!">, I'm now on Celexa, Wellbutrin and Topamax. Topamax is supposed to help recovering drunks stay off the sauce. So far, so grand. :cool:

I've only been on this plan a few days, but wow, I've already seen a drop in the belly. Even the beloved one noticed this morning! :D I also have a total of 80 lbs to lose, but I am relieved that it appears the meds are not a problem so far. Effexor wreaked total havok on my appetite when I took it. goatblimp!

Hope this helps...just don't go off it w/out doc's approval, ok?

Effexor is a devil in sheeps clothing (at least it was for me). My appetite went waaaayyyyyyyy up and I retained HUGE amounts of water. I also had some pretty significant sexual side-effects from it as well. I didn't have an orgasm for NINE FREAKIN' MONTHS!!!! No matter what - I couldn't 'get there'.

I know what you mean, thin...I used to call it "side effexor"!
