Liquid Splenda

Hi all,

Not sure if I'm in the right spot for this question....so please forgive me if I'm not:o

In the past I've purchased (for a ridiculous shipping cost) Liquid Splenda from Synergy Diet. Now it appears to have been removed from their website! Does anyone know what happened? Is there ANYWHERE to get Liquid Splenda or are we doomed until "THEY" decide to make it available to us?

Thanks!

Deanna

Have you contacted the company that makes splenda. They may be able to help you!

Liquid Splenda

I have indeed contacted the company through their internet site as I understand liquid Splenda used to be available online but seems to be no longer...also tried their 1-800 number but was only a standard recording...Splenda's site advertises that liquid Splenda would be made available soon but that was some time ago...will post any response I receive...

RE: Liquid Splenda

I sent an e-mail in regards to Liquid Splenda and received this response from their Customer Service Division...they seem to be very vague about providing any info as to whether they have any designs to produce and even market this product !?!?!?!?...

Dear Ms. Merriam:

A liquid form is produced in another country, but not within the U.S. So we do not manufacture or distribute it within the U.S.

If you have any further questions, please write back or call 1-800-777-5363 (Monday-Friday, 9a.m.-5p.m., EST).

Sincerely,
Shannon

Like Pulling Teeth, ain't it?

I'm still not clear just what country produces the liquid, but Johnson & Johnson seems to have a lock on it in the States.

I'm hoping to (someday) get hold of a "pulse" at the Canadian corporate entity... still chipping at it.

You and me both ;)

Last summer, I phoned McNeil, Cdn. distributor of Splenda, located in Guelph, Ontario. 1-800-561-0070. This was before I had internet service, and hadn't met you wonderful dear folks at LowCarb Canada yet ;) ....

Anyway, I was informed that pure sucralose, in its liquid form is indeed produced right here in Canada. HOWEVER, it is produced only for industrial use ... meaning, it is shipped to companies that make Splenda sweetened products, such as the drinks, juices etc AND the McNeil company branch in the US, where the pure sucralose is mixed with the maltodextrins etc and spun into the granular product, then packaged and shipped back here for us to pay an exhorbitant price for it .. :p .. The woman I spoke to advised me that the law did not permit its sale to individuals even for private consumption. She didn't specify which law, the FDA??, other consumer laws?? Or patent rights on the product from the parent company??

Doreen

IslandGirl Thu, Aug-09-01 12:56

the law??

basically:

a) The Health Protection Branch (the product not yet listed and cleared, or categorized, therefore not explicitly legal for sale), our "equivalent" of the FDA, aka FDA-North

b) and quite possibly a patent/copyright restriction... interesting point (I've been "hearing" that Johnson & Johnson has been leaning on the small vendors of liquid Splenda in the US to stop, under pressure from various threatened manufacturers who presumably want a lock on the products, to make it difficult for people to make 'n' bake their own ... a solid source on this, too).

Dammit.

PS

Somewhere between manufacturers and individuals lie retailers and distributors; a lot like between a rock and a hard place....

Dubble Dammit.

Latest info I have uncovered in regards to Liquid Splenda...

This is an answer to an inquiry put to an online distributor of Liquid Splenda:

"After being out of production for about two months, we expect it to return by the end of this month. There has been a worldwide Splenda shortage, and the production of the Liquid was put on hold, as the Granular production was increased.

But, as I say, we are told that it should be back by the end of August. We plan to send out an email announcement in one of our newsletters when it is back. "

It also seems that the country that is producing Liquid Splenda is Brazil...a member from another LC Board posted that she did indeed receive Liquid Splenda before it became unavailable and the packaging was not in English (assume Portuguese as that is the language of Brazil)....

I have information about pure sucralose which is the generic name or splenda without the maldodexitrim. If you would like to know
send me and email

Hello nefertiti!

What is the info you have? I have the www.Sweetzfree.com link ready for August 1 when it opens for ordering again...

Do you have anything different?

Thanks!, ~Cheryl Ann

There's also this source for liquid sucralose:

If you go to ebay and search for Sweet Water, that is another liquid splenda that is also cheaper than some of the others.

Here is a concentrated powder form with no fillers. I have mixed my own liquid by combining the 20 grams of powder with tap water. http://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=2230
