Applebees doesn't have a clue...on LC....

I just came back from Applebees for a luncheon with the girls and asked if they had a low carb menu and the waitress proceeded to show me all the Low Fat entrees. I told her No, not low fat, low carb. And she looked at me like  I was talking another language!

How come Low fat gets noticed and not low carb at restaurants??

I hope they start getting with the program...

Anyhow I had the portabelo mushroom swiss burger minus the bun and fries.

Just had to share...thanks for listening

Look at how loooooong it took for most restaurants to get with the low-fat.
Most of them are very much behind the curve.

Applebee's has a reputation for being a pain anyways.

They won't provide nutrition facts for hardly any of their food.

I would probably rate them worst for Low-Carb friendlyness amongst the major chains.

(My wife and I walked out once after ordering steaks, medium, with veggies and being served well done, with french fries and rice.)

TO me, Applebee's has always been the hardest place to eat LC at. They used to have this steak salad with blue cheese that was easy to order but they have taken that off the menu. Even if I ask for a burger with no bun or fries, they usually forget. I don't eat it, but what a waste of food!

Ruby Tuesdays and TGI Fridays

I don't know if anyone has heard this or not but I know that Ruby Tuesdays and TGIFridays has come out with LC menus. :yay:

Good Luck to everyone and Happy Holidays!

I love Applebees and eat their prime rib, hold the toast. 0 carbs. I usually share it with my dh and have a salad, hold the croutons.

My wife and I eat at Applebee's a couple times a week. At least at the one we go to they seem to be very familiar with Low Carb. I usually always order from the Take Two menu. I order Chicken minus the Honey Glaze and the Sirlion. I keep the mixed vegetables and replace the mashed potatoes with broccoli, and hold the bread.

TGI Fridays has an Atkins approved menu (I think mainly everything is served with a side of broccoli, LOL) but here is the url : www.tgifridays.com/menu/healthymenu.htm

You should call the manager and ask him or her to provide more LC entrees. Applebees is a pain. I like Outback, however.

Here is the link to send an email to Applebee's:

I think the problem with aplebees is the menus are so regional. The low fat weight watchers menus are only available in some places. I'm not sure if it is up to the discrecion of the franchise owner what menu is used, or if the company makes that decision.

I think much of thier food has hidden carbs or at least tons of sodium. I'll eat there and have LC selctions, but the next day be up enough to make me wonder. I have discovered thier chicken and salmon cesears though. They are great (I order without alot of the extras) filling and LC.

I love the Ruby Tuesday menu though and hope more resteraunts follow siut. The only RT around her eis over an hour away though, so not something I can do too regularly.

I ABSOLUTELY adore Applebee's.. I go there once a week, order the rib eye or sirloin, and ask them to remove the starch off my plate and replace it with veggies... Not only do they do it without hesitation, I get the freshest steamed broccoli in the world. This is one restaurant that I gallantly approve of. And I have absolutely no problem with them.

Another one of my FAVORITE restaurants that are as accomidating as Applebee's is the cheese cake factory. They have an awesome ribeye and you can get that with a huge caesar or a BOWL of steamed buttery broccoli.

Same with Chili's. They also have a nice cajun ribeye normally served with smashed potatoes and grilled veggies. I ask them to remove the taters and double up on the veggies. I never get an argument.

All 3 of these restaurants want me to come back... So they will do anything to please me.. and that's how it should be. :agree:

I hate applebees. I have been there about 5 times in my life and each time I go there, without fail, something goes wrong AND something ends up falling on me.

First time I went there I got some smothered chicken dish 'unsmothered' (years ago) and the waitress not only gave it to me smothered but dropped it right in my lap on my black and white dress.

Ever since then its been the same story every time I go there. Something goes wrong and the server will spill something on me.

I am not even mean to them! I am super nice. I think its just my luck. I now refuse to eat there, even though my meal always ends up being free.

I use to go to the AppleBees on University drive, service was ok..

lynneuk Tue, Dec-23-03 21:03

I was at Applebee's yesterday with my husband. I asked to replace the potatoes and garlic bread that comes with the smothered chicken with a side salad. The waitress said I would have to pay an extra $1.99!! I said ask your boss and she came back and said the answer is no and then told me everyone always asks to do that. Duh!! When will they wake up and realise the customer is not going to return when they don't get what they need.
