Vitamins - - will they help me?

Well my back went out (after being healthy for over a year) this week and I know it is due to whatever is ailing me right now since I have been exercising and building up my back/abdomen over last few weeks and this should not have happened under normal circumstances.

I won't know the results of my blood tests till the 25th but I have noticed that last 2 day I've been feeling less dizzy/foggy. I am assuming that all of those suffering from hypo have their good days/bad days. I also noticed my appetite has decreased....but staying on LC has been hard since nothing seems palatable to me right now and depression from not feeling well has hit :(

Actually, last week I have been off LC (not totally, but eating carbs daily) and I have been feeling better. I don't want to go off LC but this week the need to feel better was overwhelming. Today I start fresh. Problem is my DH, as much as he has been supportive thru this WOE, doesn't understand how I truly feel with this thyroid thing. He tells me to take extra vitamins (his answer to everything). Will vitamins help? And if so, which ones.

Hi, Yvonne

I'm hypothyroid and I take a number of supplements. I take Dr. Atkins Basic #3 formula vitamin, which has a lot of stuff at good levels for me. I take CLA, L-tyrosine, L-carnitene, CoQ10, chromium piccolinate. I think that's all I'm taking.

I take Levoxyl 150 mcg for my thyroid. It is a synthetic T4 replacement. I used to take Synthroid which is also a synthetic T4 replacement. I switched because Synthroid's documentation says it may cause weight gain. I was having trouble losing. I don't know if that was related or not. So now I take Levoxyl. I seem to be losing okay.

Hmm, I'm hypo and on 175 mcg of synthroid... I never saw anywhere that it can cause weight gain!!!

My next apt. isn't until 12/30 and I am having a terrible time losing. less than a lb. a week!!!

If I'm not mistaken about where I saw it, I think it's under possible side effects. I think I saw it on Synthroid's own website.

Not all, but a lot of Hypo's generally have a slow weight loss anyhow I'm sorry to say.

Good luck with your weight loss.

I just checked on their web site and it says:

Notify your phsyician if you have any of the following symptoms: rapid or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath, leg cramps, headache, nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness, tremors, change in appetite, weight gain, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive sweating, heat intolerance, fever, changes in menstrual periods, hives, or skin rashes or any other unusual medical event.

You have to hunt to find it, but a lot of people seem to report difficulty losing weight on Synthroid. It's one of those your mileage may vary things. Some do okay, some don't.

Thanks Virginia!

But since my Synthroid has been increased I have had much trouble losing weight... I am going to ask if I can switch to a different brand.

I've never heard anything but good reviews on anyone taking Levoxyl so maybe it's time for a change! :(
