Gyro without Pita
Is it okay for me to eat the meat that comes on a Gyro..
I have been eating them once a week since i started... i don't eat the pita... but i do eat the slice or two of tomatoe and onion.. and some of the sourcream/ cucumber sauce... i think the meat is lamb... can i ?? please say yes... they are soo good and I never ate the pita before... so feels awesome to be able to go out with my hunny and eat what he is eating.. ya know? Is the meat 100% lamb or is there some starchy filler added? Ask the proprietors of the restaurant what's in it. If it's pure meat, then enjoy it! I'd be wary of the sauce, it might have sugar or other bad carbs in it. Again, I'd ask the proprietors for the nutritional information just to be safe.

I've eaten Gyro meat at least one or twice a week since i started Atkins three months ago. From what I've heard, the meat should be 100% lamb or a lamb/beef mixture and there shouldn't be any filler in there like there is in meat loaf or meat balls... The only thing I don't like about the meat is it's pretty salty.

ummm Gyros
I like how salty it is... it is just so filling and tasty... and easy to get on the go... i hate asking for things like burgers without buns... but i just get the gyro the way it is... and use the pita as a plate... such a wonderfull plate... but for holding meat only... not eating
I will ask the restaraunt what's in it... i have always been under the assumption it was always meat.. they have lamb and they have chicken gyros... I am eating one now.. i waited for your advice... thanks guys  |
gryo is 20% lamb 80% beef (for american taste) in greece 100% lamb - of course with spices. The dressing in most resurants is made from HOMEMADE yogurt with oil and spices. I love a gryo salad!! Piled with meat, feta cheese, dressing and a hardty bed of lettus (no onions or tomatoes).
