How I Made My Psyllium Drink Taste Okay

Well, this isn't exactly rocket science, but I thought that maybe others here who drink psyllium husk powder in water might be looking for something to make the experience a little more pleasant.

Of course, for those of us in long-term induction, mixing the powder with fruit juice is not an option. The thought of mixing it with just about anything else made my stomach turn. But the flavor of plain psyllium powder in water was getting harder and hard to take.

Then, it dawned on me that my sugarless soft-drink syrups from Nature's Flavors might be the answer. I have found that the NF mandarin orange and kiwi flavors are pretty darned good. So I put a couple of tablespoons of the orange syrup (zero carbs and zero sugar) into my usual dose of psyllium and VOILA!! Major, major improvement.

So, for anyone in induction trying to fight constipation, here's one way of making psyllium husks easier to deal with. For anyone interested, Nature's Flavors is at http://www.naturesflavors.com . By the way, I've tried the ginger and cherry cola syrups, too, but they taste sort of odd to me. Your mileage may vary.

Yes ! I've been using my DaVinci SF syrups the same way for about a year now, I like the bananna flavor for this purpose. I also make sure I wisk the heck out the mix.

MMM Yummy! LOL But, I'll stick to the pills. LOL I can usually swallow those better all at once. Down side is if they get stuck in my throat while I try to swallow. hmmmmm maybe I can try the shake . . .

Sounds like a great idea, Tim. I'll try it. Thanks!

Well...I can't stand the stuff and it BINDS me besides! LOL!!!

So, I threw mine OUT...whole bottle...in the trash two days ago!

Bought 2 pounds fresh flax seeds (whole). Past two nights I have taken two TBSP of flax seeds...ground them up in the coffee grinder...put into a mug of hot water (not boiling)...added one pkt splenda, cinnamon, and heavy cream. YUM-CITY folk's! HOW GREAT it taste! Last night I saved it for my SNACK! LOL! And will do so EVERY night from now on! AWESOME!

Oh yeah: This morning I had a very comfortable bathroom visit! AT LAST! Hope the good effects continue because it is NO problem at all to consume. And gotta love those omega's you get as a bonus!

Best to all;
HAPPY jake :wiggle:

Before I mixed it with the Diet V8 juice I would mix it with a Crystal Light Lemonade. Mix it up in a blender REAL WELL!!

ALSO: Search the web and make sure you buy PSYLLIUM HUSK and not the PSYLLIUM POWDER (this is what you will get in the metamucil types).

Husks stay firm and are less likely to give you the *goo* and they are also more productive for *cleaning* you gut and bulking.

Using an Atkins chocolate drink with about a 1/2 teaspoon of the husks at a time is a good idea. It can all be a matter of moderation with the husks and splitting it up into a ritual you do 2 or 3 times a day rather than a *take your medicine* option all at once. When you add just a little to the shakes, you will have a mildly thick shake.

Excellent and creative ideas for the psyllium ingestion, Folks -- thanks!

Also, Jake, great idea for the flax seeds. We have been grinding them up and consuming them on cereal every day for years. I like your idea, though, sounds more yummy.

Flax has been shown in studies to be very good for ladies "of a certain age" -- and my experience has borne this out.

Thanks everyone, for the good ideas.
