I weighed mysef today and I have lost a 1lb off it, and I am determained to get it back off, with a few extra!!! :agree:
But cant figure out what I did wrong, now Im scared to eat onions!!
am I doomed never to eat them again?????????????

Relax! :) It is perfectly normal to go through some ups and downs. Your body is probably still shedding fat, but that dratted scale doesn't account for variations in the weight of food you eat, variations around TOM (time of the month), water weight fluctuations, gain in muscle, slight constipation... the extra two pounds can't really be accounted for. It could be anything. Just keep up the good work, and don't forget the merits of the good ol' measuring tape.

yeah what she said.

DWRolfe Tue, Jul-22-03 09:29

Listen to Kristine...

...she's oh so wise! Don't you fret about those 2 pounds. I bet they will disappear just as quickly and you won't know why.

As more time passes, you'll notice that fluctuations such as these happen. It's why many people prefer the tape measure to the scale...

14 pounds in 2 weeks is darn good and means you're doing things right. Just be patient. Stress is not good for anyone.

Good luck!

Hi there, I have found from my experience that water retention is how I gain back a lb or 2. So I just watch not to eat high salt foods and it goes back down.

lburnikell Tue, Jul-22-03 09:37

thank you all for your replies I guess I already knew that would be the answer, but I just needed that bit of reasurance!!! and yes 14lb in 2 weeks is great!!
Does that mean I can eat onions!!!

i had nearly the same experience. i'm on induction and lost a pound a day for 8 days, then on day 9 i gained 2! i was a wreck trying to figure out what i'd done wrong, afraid to eat at all. but the next day i was down one and although i wasn't down today, i've got that killer headache that tells me my TOM is coming in the next day or so. i'm hoping this is the reason, because i was having no trouble following the diet and i've been in moderate ketosis according to the strips for over a week.

Trying to take my own advice...

I'm trying to hide my scale, and weigh in NO more than once a week, same time of day, then put the scale back on a high shelf... I get sooooooo frustrated when I see it bounce back up, it sets me up for failure. I figure "I gained two pounds, and did nothing wrong! I might as well give up and have a treat...."

Fat Wed, Jul-23-03 14:44

Wish I could do that PotatoFree

lburnikell Wed, Jul-23-03 15:54

Hi all thanks for the posts. potatofree I have tried to hide the scales, but I spend more time worrying if I dont weigh myself, so I think what the heck and weigh myself everyday.
I am still miffed cause its hard to get the 2lb back of but blimin easy to go on. and I know what you mean about wanting to have a real treat!!!

You know.....
I had the same exact thing happen to me.
Right after my first two weeks of induction I gained 3 pounds.
It really made me doubt myself but the knowledge and support
I received from reading others posts helped reassure me that it
was only temporary. I'm still not sure what caused those naughty
numbers on the scale to rise but I am happy to report they fell off
a week later and have continued to drop AND.....
I eat ONIONS everyday!!!!! Actually a whole onion has about what...
8 grams of carbs?! I put onion in everything and still only eat about
one a week.
Eat your onion and enjoy!!

Also, maybe when you become more confident you will be able to resist
the scale more often. If you truly believe that low carbing is working
for you then you can start to trust that your weight is headed in the
right direction, regardless of the numbers on the scale. I do weigh
myself atleast once a week. Usually just for the thrill of seeing a lower
number. I would definitely try to heed the advice of the wise seniors
on this board and slowly try to wean yourself from the clutches of
"THE SCALE"!!!

Good Luck & Happy Losing!

Thanks for that it has now shifted thank god!! I hope one day I can let go and only get on the scales once a week, I used to go on about 8 times a day and I have cut it to once sometimes twice a day, so a little a time. Thanks again for the support.

scales

Get the evil insanity-inducing scale out of your house. It can't drive you crazy if it's not there!!

Of course, you will need to check your weight every so often -- but try do it away from home -- I rely on the scales at the gym. Since I weigh myself only naked, and before I've eaten or drunk anything for the day, and since it's very inconvenient to get to the gym first thing in the morning before I've had even a sip of water, I find I weigh myself only about once a week by necessity.

Giving up the scales is like giving up carbs. Once they've been out of your life for a week or two, you don't even miss 'em! And you find that you just start going by the way your clothes fit,

There's a woman here who weighs only 2 lbs less than I do, and is my height -- and wears a dress size TWO SIZES smaller (10) than I do (14) -- because she's fitter than I am, has more muscle mass!! So that's how much the scale tells you -- practically nothing. :wiggle:
