Unsure of what carbs to count....

For the past few weeks I haven't lost as much weight as I had been in the past few months... and I was wondering if it was because of the "low-carb" foods I am buying at the stores?

On them I will count the netcarbs they advertise as how many carbs will affect me... and should I count that way? On the back it says much more (and higher then should be taken in on the atkins diet), and I am unsure as to whether or not that would be what I am taking in instead :/

So... should I count the net carbs... or all the carbs in general listen on the nutritional facts?

Hi Epiphany,

Unfortunately, some people find that the sugar alcohols in low carb bars and candy do affect their blood sugars. It sounds as though you may be one of them. :(

If you go to Low Carb Tips (on the orange bar that runs across the top of the screen), you'll find an article explaining more about sugar alcohols.

My advice would be to save the bars and candy for occasional use only. :)

grrrr darn that sweettooth my grandpa gave me! Perhaps that is my major weakness, now that I have lost 50.. the carbs are really starting to count now?

The sugar alcohols certainly cause problems for some but I also thought I would mention that it is normal for your weight loss to slow as you progress into the diet. I know I am losing in a month the amount I use to lose in a week. I'd certainly back off the artificial sugars and see if that helps though. Wow! Fifty pounds is a great acomplishment!

Also as you continue your WOE you will always slow down... this is common.

If you have cravings and aren't eating well, or aren't satisfied by all means please stop the frankenfoods.

But my humble opinion is that if you are enjoying eating, not cheating and losing weight then you are doing great.

Think way of life not diet...

All the best!
