Oh Rats

Perhaps because Anno Domini is catching up with me I have been delving into ageing. It is nice to see the good Dr. A also with his age defying diet.

But, prompted by a rather good Horizon program that showed rats on a calorific restriction diet living to a ripe old age, I thought there might be something in it.

My own low carbing is a lower calorie diet than before but not at the 900/1000 level.
Should I take advantage of the appetite suppressive qualities of Low carb and take a dive a bit lower? I pondered. Should I ignore all the 10-12 cals per pound advice and starve my fats cells into submission. Might the Grim Reaper put me on hold?

The the basic premise of caloric restriction is on the chart below.

But then I found the following article which is worth a read as it has some useful things on BMI research. The article is saying it may work for rats but not for humans.

Och well, never mind, carry on as before.

However it was intersting to find out that L.Deprenyl prolongs life in elderly dogs!

We had a discussion about mice living longer with reduced calorie diets back in November. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...&threadid=26068

In that article though, the aged mice were genetically modifed specifically to live longer than their fellow rodent-cohorts.

(note: rusty, the link you gave is broken, a typo perhaps??)
