Question About Pilates and Fitday

I posted this on the Atkins forum, but decided I'd give it a try over here too.....

I just started doing Pilates and want to enter it in my Fitday activity reports. Therefore, for anyone doing Pilates, how are you entering this activity? I see that they have T'ai Chi listed, but no yoga or pilates. I know I could do a search for Pilates/Fitday on this forum, but I get a million different posts when I do that and I just don't have time to go thru each one.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Hi Scorpio. I too have this problem with my log software. What I have been doing is choosing "calisthenics" (I assume our two exercise listings are similar), because it's the closest thing i can think of. And because I have NO idea how many calories I'm actually burning, I choose the light/moderate level because, at least in my Pilates video, it's no-impact exercise. I think that "vigorous" calisthenics can include jumping jacks and stuff, so that's why I don't pick that one. It doesn't give me a whole lot of calories burned, but I'd rather underestimate than overestimate.

I don't know if that helps or not, and I'm grateful for any suggestions anyone else has on the matter.

BTW, if our exercise listings are similar, you may find yoga under "Stretching, hatha yoga." That's where it is on mine.

Thanks, Alopex. I got a similar response on the Atkins forum, so I'm going to list it as calisthenics - the less vigorous version. Of course, with all the tripping around I'm doing, maybe I should go with the vigorous version! LOL

Thanks!

pilates

Currently for exercise, I am walking four miles a day. However, I would like to add Pilates to my exercise regime. Do you reccomend an inexpensive video, program, or anything to help me get started? I would appreciate it!

rachelj78 - I do the Beginners Pilates Mat workout with Ana Caban and it is a great work out and it was only 19.99. You don't have to buy all that pilates equipment. I got mine at Whole Foods. I don't know if you have a Whole Foods near you but I am sure you can find the DVD or Video anywhere. HTH

I got the Winsor Pilates DVDs and have foiund that they are fantastic! I've lost 10.75 inches in about 2 weeks. I know it is a little more expensive, but I have found that it is truly worth it.

I, too, think the Windsor workout is great! I have been doing the 20 minute workout daily for about 6 weeks and my husband thinks my butt is cute and my kids are saying...wow mom you look great :yay: It was a little hard in the beginning but I think in another month or two I will try the 50 min workout.
