doea anyone else eat roast beef from the deli?

how do i enterthat in my fitday journal. i cant find just plain roast beef

Tiggerdy Tue, Jun-03-03 13:23

I think you'd probably need to use the Luncheon Meat, Frankfurter link on Fitday to log in deli roast beef. Then maybe use the "Beef, luncheon meat, sliced, prepackaged or deli" entry.

PS- Remember to watch the sodium in deli meats. ;)

thanks and looks as if you have lost alot of weight, congrats toyou

Tiggerdy Tue, Jun-03-03 13:27

Thanks! It's nice hearing that now and then-- especially since I still have a ways to go. ;)

I hope the link is what you're looking for. Remember, you can always request the nutritional info on the meat from the deli or the manufacturer's web site and then create a custom food entry in Fitday.

BTW- Keep up the good work w/LCing! I saw your other threads in the past about converting over from Slim Fast. I'm glad this WOL is working for you.

Take care!

Is that for regular roast beef (i.e. big hunk o' meat you bake in the oven) or the sliced stuff from the deli? I'm interested to know as I sometimes get the stuff from the deli-- but I know it has a lot of sodium and other stuff (has some carbs in it). Unfortunately from the totals given, I think they're the counts for actual roast. :(

Thanks for the info!

you know, that may be for a roast you cook -- if you get it from a deli, do they cook it and then slice it? I guess for a deli it may have more sodium in it, but I don't know if it would have added anything else.

May be best to call the deli or maybe they could save you that part of the package so you would know.

Oops.

Unfortunately it's sometimes hard to find a "pure" sliced roast beef in the deli. It does exist, but most deli meats have sodium and other things added to either enhance flavor and/or to preserve them so they "keep" longer (I'm betting the preservatives and possibly added sugar is where the carbs come it).

In looking at the "Beef, luncheon meat, sliced, prepackaged or deli" entry in Fitday, it gives something like 1.6g carbs for 1 slice. That even seems high, but the sodium count is right on. Best thing to do is request the info from the deli. That way you can't be wrong. Between all of us here, you'd think we've seen it all! ;)

Hiya All!
On Fitday...a check of deli meats shows NO roast beef...however...you can look up roast beef sandwhich...and a look at the ingredients shows the meat...click on that...adjust for 1/4 pound...and get these values:

Amount Per 4 oz
Calories 275.4
Calories from Fat 143.11
Total Fat 15.9g 24%
Saturated Fat 6.35g 32%
polyunsaturated Fat 0.487g
Monounsaturated Fat 6.73g
Cholesterol 90.67mg 30%
Sodium 81.6mg 3%
Potassium 423.87mg 12%
Total Carbohydrate 0g 0%
Dietary Fiber 0g 0%
Protein 30.88g 62%

Hope this helps!
Best to all;
Jake
