Oh my god! Yello high in carbs?
I almost had an heartattack, because I was trying to calculate my food at FitDay and when I was looking for my "sweet treat" jelly sweetend with an sweetner (cyclamat & saccharin, so 1 tablespoon has 0,01 carbs) I found this at FitDay:
Jelly, dietetic, all flavors, sweetened with artificial sweetener Total Fat 0g 0% -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturated Fat 0g 0% -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Polyunsaturated Fat 0g -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monounsaturated Fat 0g -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cholesterol 0mg 0% -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sodium 3mg 0% -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Potassium 198mg 6% -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total Carbohydrate 172.2g 57% -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dietary Fiber 2.4g 10% -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Protein 1.5g 3% 172 carbs? How is that possible if the carbs comes from the sugar added to the jelly and I use an artifical sweetner...   |
I beleive the "jelly" that fit day is referring to is jam/preserves - a spread made out of fruit. Try "jello" in fitday. As far as the high in carbs go - looks like it was a tad more in a tablespoon of jelly, double check your measurements - sometimes fitday is easy to put in a massive serving size without even realizing it! (I've done it many a time)

no "jello" at FitDay, but I´ve taken a look at my jello package and the carbs come from the sugar added, so if my sweetner only has 0.01 carbs on 1 teaspoon - a package of jello (500gramms) can only have 0.05 carbs...
Is this right or am I totally off the track? |
OK I misunderstood and looked up jelly- Like fruit preserves.
One tablespoon is 10.79 g of carbs. I think you missed the decimal point-font is pretty small. Funny but the reduced sugar one has less carbs 8.67 then the artificial sweetner one. I use jello sprinkled in my yogurt for flavoring I hope its low. |
This might put your mind a bit more at ease. On Fitday, it's listed under Gelatine desserts and here is a link to the stats for 1 cup of sugar-free gelatine:
http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/FoodFa...010&OwnerID=100 It's very low in carbs. Just be aware that most sugar-free gelatine is sweetened with Aspartame (at least in the US) which can stall some people. HTH! |
To avoid the aspartame in sugar-free jello I have used the unflavored Knox gelatin and flavored it with kool-aid from the unsweetened packet, and splenda. It turns out pretty good...
