I'm not new... but...
I'm not exactly new, but it's been a long time. I'm back for the long haul. It's been 20 years since I joined this forum. Sigh... I am still just as fat as when I started. But that has to change here and now. Over those 20 years I have developed some health problems, that my just be resolved through diet and weight loss... if you want, check out my journal and offer some support... I would love for you to stop in!

Hi Adnil,
Welcome back! I read your recent journal posts about your health challlenges. Since you were last active in a Low Carb community, there is now a very large, very respected Low Carb website called DietDoctor. I recommend it for the impact of LC on any Health Condition. Here is their latest guide on Protein and Kidney Health. Their evidence-based guides are written by medical doctors There are many other posts in addition to this general guide. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/kidney-health I have read that Protein is not a problem from other medical doctors, https://youtu.be/y8r3EL1Ylcg and nutritionists http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2018/0...dneys.html#more In fact DietDoctor and Dr Ted Naiman are proponents of Higher Protein Low Carb diets. It is what I did 18 months ago to reach goal weight. After using Keto for a decade and not reaching goal weight, I lowered fat, while increasing protein and fiber and nutrition. https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=484995 I do not have kidney disease, but understand your caution. However, if you look around the LC world now, most doctors will now debunk any need to limit protein. What is recommended for bone health is more protein, though getting more calcium from food, not supplements!, helps too. |
Thanks for your reply JEY100, I will check into the links you provided. 😊

Hi adnil, welcome back!
I've also been a member of this forum for the past 20 years, and am currently working my way back to goal again! |

I check out the diet doctor link. This is what I found "In 2005, kidney experts reviewed all the available scientific literature and concluded “while protein restriction may be appropriate for treatment of existing kidney disease, we find no significant evidence for a detrimental effect of high protein intakes on kidney function in healthy persons.” So for me, yes limiting protein would be appropriate. 😊 |
Hi Demi! I think I remember you... maybe. Welcome back! I will stop by your journal... 🙂

Welcome back.
To add to JEY, bones are a multi mineral structure. Calcium and phosphorus are the main ones, with minor ones. Along with bone building vitamins, like K2, and others. Calcium seems to be easy to get in the diet especially if dairy is regular ly consumed. The lesser building blocks need the attention. Worth taking a deep dive into bone development. Especially as not all foods are source of absorbable minerals. Have a look at bone broth as an option for the minerals. Vitamins are still needed to make these minerals into bone. |
Thank you Ms Arielle, I agree totally... 😊 and will take that into consideration when I plan my meals. Thank you for the information. 🙂

Welcome back, Linda!

Thanks Roz!

Happy you've come home! Yes, a lot of veterans are still here--and not because we've been 100% successful.
Let us know some of the changes you notice in diet management LC style--especially ones you'll find helpful. Best wishes. |
Thank you... I will be posting in my journal.

Right there with you. Discovered LC some 20 years ago and had great success with it. Life happens; now I'm back. I'll post a note in the introductions with a little more information, but letting you know that there are many people in your situation.
