PP vs. PPLP

I am just starting on Protein Power and was wondering if there were any distinct differences between PP and PPLP? I haven't read either one yet.

I have copies of both, and have glanced through them (but not read in detail). Some of the differences are small--some big. For instance, in PP they were against GLA and other "supplements" but have changed their mind after more research.

If you were only to read one, I'd say the PPLP is the best bet.

I guess it doesn't matter since I modify my diet anyways. I especially liked chapter 6 of PP "Meet the Eicosanoids"

Just my opinion, but i think it helps to read the book. I am doing the protein power phase II part. I am obviously overweight by more than 20%, but I am diabetic so i am on the more liberal carb part of the plan. I eat 40-50g ECC a day.

You do learn tips for how to do this plan by reading.

This thread may be outdated but I'll post anyway.

I've read both books as well. I found the plans to be a little different. For instance, the PPLP included 3 plans, the Hedonist, the Dilettante, and the Purist plans whereas the older book did not. Basically, the PPLP is based on newer research so I would recommend that you follow PPLP.

Also, the PPLP seems more geared around health management. They advocate eating only organic foods and staying away from artificial sweeteners and processed foods. Also, they take a stronger position on taking antioxidants and other supplements. They also have very interesting information about the harmful effects of iron. Lastly, they have the best description about insulin resistance that I have ever come across. I enjoyed PPLP more.

Hope this helps,
Wanda

What does PPLP stand for? and which book(s) are available?

PPLP

PPLP=Protein Power LifePlan...it's written by Drs. Michael and
Mary Eades. They wrote a book called Protein Power.

Oh! I thought they were 2 different programs!

OK...I'm reading PP now!

The PP describes the "diet" in more detail. Yes, the PPLP is more updated, but in order to gain a good, solid understanding of this way of eating, you really need to read PP first.

I'm sure if you could ask the Eadeses that question, they'd rather you read PPLP, because it was their publisher who pressured them into making the original PP a 'diet' book. In the second book, PPLP, nutrition is just one facet of the program, hence the "Life Plan" name. I enjoyed reading both, but PP was definitely more informative with respect to diet. If you buy one, I'd recommend getting the other out of the library. They're both worth reading.

a while back I read PP Lifeplan and got a little confused and frustrated with the book (I was reading alot of lc books at the time). I have been looking for a change and a few days ago I picked up the older book of Protein Power and I am really enjoying it more, it explains the diet better for me to understand or maybe I just understand lc'ing better now, but I think that PP is more helpful.
