New in New Jersey

Hi All... I am new here and have been doing the Atkins diet since Monday March 17th.. I have currently lost 8lbs.. I have been good for the most part but since I've never actually read the book I'm a little unclear as to what I should be eating and NOT.. I too thought nuts were OK (read a post here before from someone else that had the same idea) I miss fruit SOOO bad.. Its been two weeks now but I'm afraid to eat anything because I really want to lose this weight.. Its almost like I prefer NOT eating than eating the wrong thing or wrong amount.. I think I am sooo programmed with Weight Watchers and portion control.. Please, any suggestions from those of you that have been doing this for sometime with good success... What should I eat? Should I have fruit now? How about Diet Jell-O? I need to have something "dessert-like" at night...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :help:

What about going to Atkin's website until you can read the book?

Here is a link.

Be sure to get the book and read it too.

Hi Jackie, welcome!

Trying to start low carbing without any information is a bit like trying to drive a car without taking any lessons! You really need to arm yourself with some solid information. The answers to your questions about what to eat will be in the book. You really, really need to buy the book, and read it! :read:

Are you sure you want to do Atkins specifically? Some plans are more liberal in the food allowed, eg fruit. If you go to the right side of the screen, you will see "Which low carb plan is right for me?" That is a collection of summaries of the major plans. Choose the plan that will suit your lifestyle, then buy the book and read it thoroughly before you try to start.

You really really really should read a low carb book. If you're concerned about price, try Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. It costs only $7.99 +tax (6% in NJ) at a book store or you can order it online at barnes and noble (bn.com) for only $4.79.
Good luck!

Welcome, Jackie. Glad you found us...

You're likely to get a whole bunch of responses urging you to buy the book for whichever program you choose. And the thing is, that's totally solid advice!

Even though I have been LCing for 15 months, I refer to my beatup copy of DANDR almost every day. It's well worth the investment! If you're like many others, you'll probably find you have a shelf full of LC books before too long!

Good luck to you!

dont wait on atkins website

I ordered the book from Atkins in mid February-regular shipping. After 3 weeks I called they said they had the record of the order but had not shipped.
Last week same answer. Arrgh.

All I have had is the website info which is very helpful and has a good chart of allowable foods.
