Out Of Ketosis For No Apparent Reason

As if its not enough to have been on this diet for about 5 weeks and doing induction now for the second time around without losing a smidgen of an ounce :( Now I'm out of ketosis for no apparent reason

This morning had breakfast, I've done half an hour on a treadmill type machine, done some vaccuming and floor washing etc. and no ketosis.
Yesterday my intake was

9 carbs, 104 fat, 80 protein,1307 cal,

73%fat 2%carb 25%protein

I know those darn pee sticks are not always an accurate measurement of ketosis for a variety of reasons, but I am so upset about what seems like over a month of time wasted that I need someone to reassure me that something will happen

That happened to me once, I was in my 3rd week. I was like, "whaaaaat???" I even posted on another forum because I was worried. I was in TOM though. I checked a few hours later and measured "moderate" again.
Try testing later and see....dont panic yet!!!
Good luck!!

I also read somewhere (the book, I think) that when you exercise, your body may use ketones for energy so they may not spill over into your urine.

Thanks Vicky and Amadaeus

It could be a TOM thing, I don't have it but due to my age it could be lurking its very erratic and I'm beginning to skip a month now and then. I'll hang on to that exercise theory like a rope thrown to a drowning man.

Sort of silly isn't it to be so upset over a drop of pee

I tend to obsess over the sticks too. LOL I like the reassurance that things are as they should be.

After I exercise no ketones. After I eat huge ketones. To keep things at least consistant I measure first thing in the morning before eating or exercise, kind of like a weigh-in.

Its baaaaaack

I guess my pee is bi-polar, its now in mid range ketosis, Nawchem, it must have been the exercise!!!! Thanks again everyone, I feel a lot better now :)

I want to check my ketosis too. Anyone in Canada know where I can get the ketosis sticks? I am in Toronto. Does GNC carry it?

I notice if I drink excessive amounts of water I don;t register either. But then after a while BAM I'm in the pink!!

Good luck KoKo, your doing fine!! :D

Red, you can buy URS brand sticks from Drugstore.com for 8 or 9 dollars for a bottle of 100. (that's US funds) Are you able to order from there?

I get my ketostix from netrition.com. Flaxomeal is cheaper there than the banner ad on this site too.

**Vitaglo.com is even cheaper, but I don't know how much it would come out with shipping. I usually order $50 or more, so the shipping is free to anywhere in the US, but I don't know about Canada. Sorry!

Shopper's Drug Mart carry them in their diabetic section.

Koko: every morning works best for me too. I found testing during the day too variable. Plus all the water I drink just diluted it too much. Now my results are always consistently the same everyday. Although I should stop b/c it really is a silly habit. But I'm in the process of "info-gathering", so I'll continue for awhile longer.

Hi All,

Still back in the pink of things :D For anyone living in Eastern Ontario or Quebec, I got my ketostix at Jean Coteau Pharmacy.

I get most of my moderate readings in the morning. Just for the heck of things, I've been peeing on the sticks to look for trends and where is what I've found.

30-45 minutes after consuming lots of fat, my ketones shoot up.

If I workout then measure, I move back to trace.

If I workout, rest, then measure 2-3 hours later, I am back up to moderate.

If I drink a lot of water then stop for 4-5 hours, I typically have 2-3 full pees left in me. The first one comes after about 15-20 mins and is a trade, the 2nd one comes 45mins or so after and is a better trace, and the final one, 2 hours or more after last drink is back to moderate.

So, with all this disgusting pee measuring aside I notice several things:

1) The morning pee is the most concentrated on ketones.
2) Ketones aren't as concentrated after longer term workouts.
3) The more water I dirnk the more the ketone levels are diluted.

This one is really important
4) If I eat a carb snack ( cheat ) and go out of ketosis, it can typically take me 16-24 hours to get back in to it naturally. If I get in a brisk walk or something to burn it off, I can get back in to ketosis faster, say 12-16 hours instead. ( Please don't use this as an urge to cheat and get away with it. Each time you cheat, you can lose up to 2 days of profitable induction and it is just not worth it)
