Non meat eater

I've only been doing Atkins for a week, I've lost 6 lbs and haven't felt hungry but I am really fish and egged out as I don't eat meat. Any tips or suggestions?

Hi anne305,

Why don't you try some TVP (textured veg. protein). You can get it at any health food shop. I used to be a veggie and it was a staple for me. It is quite tasty if you reconstitute it with some marmite. It can be the main ingredient in a nut roast or a stew with LC veggies.

You might like to try some pancakes made with 90% protein from Holland and Barretts or soya flour. You could then spread things on them (like more marmite!).

Good luck, Robert

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the advice. I'll look out for TVP. We usually eat a lot of quorn but its very low fat and so wouldn't stop you getting hungry between meals. We're experimenting at the minute and have thought of having the low fat quorn but maybe having a starter based on cheese or avacado to keep the protein levels up.
Nice to hear from you

If you live near an Indian store check out NUTRELLA NUGGETS. I just throw a handful into boiling water for about 10 minutes when I make pasta for the kids.

Also there are different kinds of tofu, vegeburgers (Boca is my favorite) Morning star makes quite a few meat alternatives, then there is Worthington and LomaLinda, and yves. So we have quite a bit of variety. You just have to read the labels. Hope that helped, Judy

I admit there was a time when I never paid attention to the carb count on these foods. It is wonderful that you can use quite alot of these products to supportt your health on a LC diet. It just goes to show what a little ingenuity can do. Judy

I use a lot of the Morningstar farms frozen foods.

I've also discovered Gardenburger brand. They are putting out everything from "ribs" to "meatloaf" to "meatballs", sausages of different varieties, etc. all in the frozen food section. They are awesome!

I am on the Insulin Resistance Diet and though these foods vary in carb content, they still fit nicely into my plan.
