Time Magazine
The Jan. 20 issue of Time (p. 109) features "Your A to Z Guide to the Year in Medicine." Guess what A is. Atkins Diet. It points out that after 30 years of criticism, the Atkins diet made a good showing in new studies in terms both of weight loss and triglycerides/HDL. It goes on to point out, however, that the studies were small and that a big five-year trial is underway, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. It ends on this fallacious note: "you lose weight only when you burn more calories than you eat." Word has not yet reached Time that not all calories are created equal.
Not bad, though. Sheldon |
