Neufatchel Cheese vs. Cream Cheese
 

What’s the deal? I looked at two packages made by the same manufacturer. The ingredient list is exactly the same, but the nutritional breakdown indicates less fat (and calorie) content compared to regular cream cheese. The Carb & Protein content is the same. I like the idea of being able to eat a larger quantity to get the same amount of carb/fat/protein, but am concerned that something is amiss here…

I have noticed that the neufatchel has a softer consistency - could it simply be additional water content that makes up for the difference in weight and/or volume? Does anyone have any other information about this?

You know, Ive wondered the same thing. I reconciled it this way: Teh say the harder a cheese is, the more fat is in it. So, it would make sense that the neuf. cheese, which is softer has less fat than the fully leaded kind-otherwise their nutritional content is about the same.

Im just glad they didnt pump it full of extra sugar like so many other products out there. :dazzle:

I too have noticed an upsurge of companies selling Neufatchel - recently I began seeing Kraft. I original was buying it from Shoppers Food Warehouse b/c the Richfood generic was so much cheaper. Now I regularly buy this instead of full fat cream cheese now & it is sooo much easier to deal with in recipies!

I love the neuf too!! I put it in my shakes... really... it gives it a great velvety texture and it works really well in mock danishes as well.
