Summer's Coming

:sunny: Day by day it draws closer...that time of year when we are forced to take off all the camoflage clothing and strip down to tee shirts and shorts.

For the first time in YEARS I feel like I might not have to cleverly hide the years and the pounds I've collected. I started LCing in mid-January, and I started exercising too. And dang if I don't feel great. So even though I'll never be in a bikini again (one kid, stretch marks, c-section, 49 years...need I say more?) at least I won't have to merely WISH I took better care of myself. I am taking better care of myself. And you are too. Big high fives all around!

Would anyone like to share their goals for summer? Mine is to stop hiding.

Isa

Skamito Mon, Mar-10-03 13:13

You are so right, Isa. I used to sit around complaining that my pants were too tight and that I was too tired to exercise. Now I'm looking at my cute tank tops and skirts and anxiously awaiting showing off my new buff arms and slender calves.

Summer goal- Enjoy the summer by staying active... walking, jogging, biking, rollerblading! Don't spend sunny Saturdays inside!

:)

Skamito Wed, May-14-03 12:15

Now that summer is REALLY (hopefully) coming, anyone want to state their goals?

I want to run, hop, jump, and play! :D

zandria72 Wed, May-14-03 16:13

At 123 pounds, you can probably get away with wearing most swimsuits. ;) Congrats to you!

As for me, well...I haven't had much success with this. I expect to be sweltering as usual this summer. Luckily the summer in SoCal is rather long--maybe I'll lose a few pounds by late summer.

atlee Wed, May-14-03 18:35

It's been four years since I wore a pair of shorts out in public, not counting working out and working in the yard. I'm so happy not to have to suffer through another Mississippi July in blue jeans! And the purple honeymoon bikini makes me pretty happy too... nobody will have to call Greenpeace to roll me back into the ocean!

Pooch Wed, May-14-03 19:13

Down here in South Florida it's always summer. ;)

DDMariana Wed, May-14-03 19:36

MY goal for summer is to get an air conditioner for the living room...I know I'm gonna be staying in...

Demer Wed, May-14-03 21:04

My goal for this summer is to get some new shorts because my old ones are all way too big. Thank you Dr. Atkins, wherever you are. :)

"Day by day it draws closer...that time of year when we are forced to take off all the camoflage clothing and strip down to tee shirts and shorts."

BTW, we're not FORCED to do anything. ;)

I wear t-shirts most of the time anyway. It's the shorts part I'm afraid of. :D

abbey Wed, May-14-03 22:46

I'm looking forward to the summer (mainly because it's winter here.. so I'll be so happy to get over to Texas in a months time) so I can actually feel warm!!!!

The shorts thing has never bothered me. Neithe has the tank tops.. my long term goal is to get into a bikini, but I don't think it'll be happening in the next month :)

csj Thu, May-15-03 11:01

I've been concentrating on upper body work with weights and YES! I can wear sleeveless shirts this year -- and not just to mow the yard. At 54 I consider that an accomplishment!

My summer goal is to sit on the beach in a bathing suit. It has been at least 8 years. I'm a little closer than I was but still have a long way to go before I dare, until then it is shorts and t shirts for me!! :)

cori Thu, May-15-03 12:36

One word...

Rollerblading. I want to rollerblade again.

Shorts would be nice since I tend to live in capris, but the rollerblading is the big thing. I don't care what I look like, just that I'll be able to do it!!!

Isa Thu, May-15-03 13:56

Hey cori...you go rollerblading, girl! Good for you!

mkathy6...I'd actually like to WALK down a beach in a bathing suit, let alone sit on the sand, without feeling like I've got jello thighs and a spare tire. This summer I just might make it.

csj...congratulations! That's fantastic! I've been walking and doing a pilates routine with body bands, and I can really see the difference. I may still have pounds to go before I'm at goal, but I don't scare myself in a tee shirt anymore.

abbey...bikinis. Those days are long, long gone for me. *sigh* Go for it if you can, though. Why not?

atlee...you crack me up!!! Greenpeace indeed! heeheheeheeeee!

skamito...for me it's swimming, hiking, gardening, music festivals, outdoor markets...all those things. Summer comes really late here and leaves early. We have to get out there while we can. And for the first time in years I feel like getting out there.

Cheers to all of us and to our goals for the summer. We are all at different stages in this LC way of eating, but at least we're doing something positive for ourselves. Let's keep up the great work!

Isa

(Don't know why I'm so cheerful...it's rainy, windy, and cold today.)

Tank tops and capris

Oh yeah ! But I am in Texas and Darn is it hot down here! I will be happy to lose the sleeves. Go to the pool and not be SOOOO embarassed. Still need to tone though!!!

Angel66668 Thu, May-15-03 15:21

All the shorts I couldn't fit into last summer fit me just fine now :D
That is the best feeling in the world-

Hiking and swing dancing

I'm already realizing my goal of hiking and dancing. I've joined a group that does both and have been getting out there for the last couple months. After 20-plus years of inactivity, it's so wonderful just to move!

atlee Thu, May-15-03 16:24

Hey, Deb, you're back! Haven't seen you around in a while...

Isa Thu, May-15-03 16:33

angel...congratulations! It's a good thing you hung onto those shorts, eh?

deb...fantastic! You've got the right idea. Just get out there and enjoy life!

Cheers,

Isa

Thanks, Atlee

I got busy and off the boards for a while. I'm back, but on a limited basis. I'm still very busy, especially now with all my hiking and dancing ;).

CONGRATZ!!
ive actually started to stop hiding.....it feels so great

EvenLower Fri, May-16-03 15:40

I went swimming for the first time in 2 years a couple days ago and had to go buy some new swimming shorts...I didn't have time to try it on so I went with what sizeI was a week and a half ago which is 4 inches down from when I started. went to put em on and realized I lost a couple more inches. which is definatley good, but I'm wondering how many swimsuits I'm gonna be buying this summer

DoubleD Sat, May-17-03 07:04

I have always worn shorts and t-shirts - but definitely self concious about the flabby legs etc. when I was heavier. Summer has already started to make it's appearance here... and I dug into my shorts drawer... and realized MOST were two sizes to big AND the 12's that I have in there (while able to be worn) are TOO BIG to really look nice. :) Guess I am going shopping for some shorts soon for the summer. The thing I am really looking forward too... is I absolutely AVOIDED tank tops because I had such large and flabby upper arms. Now I am much more slim and because I do resistance training... toned. I actually bought a new tank top to wear this summer ON PURPOSE! I put it on last weekend to work in the garden... and it looked great! WOO HOO!

The other thing I am looking forward to (which I have never said this in my entire life I think) is buying a new swimsuit... something without a "concealing skirt". We buy a family pass to our local aquatic center each year... and this year I intend to use it without slinking around hoping no one from work sees me there.

Yup... this is shaping up to be a good summer. :)

Personal Water Craft

We just got one of these, so I'll be out on it. At least in shorts, I'll finally have tan legs again. My saddle pinches my leg if I wear shorts. I don't really worry about shorts as long as I have a lloooonngg t-shirt :D . My main area is my stomach, and since I'm large busted, a shirt just "skims" over that. :D
But, if I'm correct and bread is a trigger for me, as long as I stay away from it I should be able to stay on the diet and lose weight. Some of it is bound to come off my stomach. :D
DH seems more pleased now. I haven't heard anything about it being "unhealthy". Of course, that could be because I keep drawing his attention to what I'm actually eating. And he sees I'm not eating "just meat".

Roberta Sat, May-17-03 13:23

I didn't even wear shorts when I was young, thinner, and sorta cute!And I haven't owned a swimsuit since I was 6.

My goal for summer is to end it as a size 16, a regular size and not a plus size person.
