Best price for coconut oil in canada?

Just wondering where you find your best price for virgin coconut oil in canada? Or is it cheaper to order from the USA? Or is it not allowed through the mail?
Thank you!

Hi. What part of the country are you in? It's been a while for me since I've bought virgin CO - I prefer the unflavoured cold-pressed CO I get at a local Asian grocery store - but if I remember correctly, the best price I saw on virgin CO was at Zehr's or Superstore in their health food section. It was this brand: Omega Nutrition

Given the price of gasoline these days, I usually opt for whatever's available at my neighbourhood, walk-to grocer rather than having to find, and probably drive to, somewhere less expensive.

I use the Omega Nutrition Certified Organic (unflavoured) for frying, and Heartland Gold Extra Virgin (flavoured) for baking. Only because that's what's available at the local store.

We live in a border town and have a mailbox in the US, so ordering bulk from the USA is cheaper for us, especially as we use a lot. Not sure how it'd be for you. As far as I know, it's allowed into Canada through the mail.

The best price we've found for Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is at Mountain Rose Herbs. One gallon is $37.00 US. Been buying it from them for a couple years now.

It's fresh, and tastes as good or better than the brands we've tried at the health food store, with the exception of Garden of Life's Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, which is the DELICIOUS (and expensive). Mountain Rose Herb's has a mild coconut flavour and is very fresh, though.

Here's the link:

Gotta scroll down to the bottom to find it, right above the refined kind.

I am in Calgary. I get mine from iHerb and also from realrawfood.com in BC which is a store that deals in food for raw foodists and mails it out. Good price on coconut oil.

I am in Toronto and I can only buy nutiva 800ml for 20$ in a small "health" store and that's the cheapest one . It's good and smells nice but the selection is non existant .

Vlad416 Thu, Aug-19-10 04:55

I found this and will probably buy when I run out of what I have now

Mountain Rose Herbs
No idea what these people charge for delivery but the bulk sizes may bring the price down to a reasonable amount.
I use cold pressed unrefined CO from a similar bulk supplier in the UK.
I use it every day and get through a normal size 450g pot each week.
I leave the bulk container in a cold place and just move it to a warm spot for a couple of days to melt then refill my smaller containers.

So far the best price I've found for the virgin brand is at Sears in their health food/vitamin section. I buy the other flavourless kind only for baking/frying (it says that's all it's good for on the jar!)

margot Sun, Oct-24-10 07:20

I bought mine from here:

http://www.rawnutrition.ca/html/nutiva_oils.html

I can buy 3x 54oz jars and get them shipped to Alberta for under $8, or buy 4 and get free shipping.

And I will implore you to NOT buy the NOW brand if you see it at your health food store, that stuff is NASTY!!! I can't even use it on my face it smells so bad. And the taste will turn you off of coconut oil forever.

The best unflavored coconut oil for cooking is this stuff, I can get it at a health food store:

I have just bought rawnutrition.ca Nutiva coconut oil and it's good and smells delicious . I bought 1 gallon and 1 jar (over 5Kg) and it cost me 100$ with free shipping, came in quickly 1 day after I ordered it as well

Thanks for the advice regarding the Nutiva coconut oil from rawnutrition.ca.

I am quite intrigued by coconut oil. Anyone in Metro Vancouver know a good place to buy it?

aamama Wed, Mar-13-13 00:11

I get mine at Costco. Big, giant tub for $16. But I'm in calgary - don't know about the lower mainland.

doreen T Wed, Mar-13-13 09:06

Superstores (Loblaws, Real Canadian, Atlantic, etc) carry several brands of coconut oil in the health foods section . Here in my region (eastern ON), Nutiva Organic Virgin coconut oil is $17.99 for 860g jar. No shipping charge, and no waiting for Canada Post :)

p.s. - every now and then, it goes on sale .. recently I picked up a few at $14.99 each

Just wanted to add ...

Wherever you purchase coconut oil in Canada, check to see if they charge the Gouge & Scrape Tax (GST) for it. Some places consider it to be a "nutritional supplement" so the tax is applied :exclm:. Both Superstores in my local area class it as a non-taxable grocery item, just like any other cooking oil.

Costco in downtown vancouver has it, I don't remember the price though

Carson L Thu, Aug-15-13 14:51

I have purchased my last two from a Canadian company online. They have a 1 gallon tub for $66 which is an organic virgin coconut oil. I usually buy two at once with a friend as the shipping is free over $99. I have been really happy with the taste and texture

hockeygal Fri, Aug-16-13 09:12

wow, you all overpaid and no one listened to my advice.

1 gallon tub for $38 at Sears. It is now like $50 but still cheaper than most posted prices here. And it is the extra virgin kind.

Oh well. Next time I won't bother posting to questinos like this, LOL. :)

Carson L Fri, Aug-16-13 17:05

Thanks for the advice but I just looked on sears.ca and the 1 gallon was listed as 79.99. They did have one for 39.99 but that one was only a 54 oz tub. Is there another one on there that you mean. This was a nutiva brand I saw.

perfectfit Fri, Sep-13-13 01:12

I found some for under $4.00 at Food Basics in Ontario.

StashRetro Thu, Oct-03-13 19:23

I bought the Carrington Farm Extra Virgin Organic at Amazon.ca (Canada) (with free shipping). Very good quality. Nice big 1.5 kg tub.

$17.99 for 1 lb online - now according to this website, 1 gallon of coconut oil weighs 7.36 lbs. http://www.coconutoil-online.com/me...oconut_oil.html

$17.99 x 7.36 = $132.41 so relatively speaking, Costco's is quite pricey..

StashRetro Fri, Oct-04-13 18:22

Yes good prices, but not certified organic. So if that makes any difference to anyone then the costco one is extra-virgin, cold pressed and certified organic.

Has anyone ordered from there? What is the quality like?

doreen T Sat, Oct-05-13 17:45

[ edited, as my original post referred to a sale which ended on Oct. 10/2013 ]

For anyone who's interested .. Bulk Barn carries several coconut oil products, inlcuding Nutiva organic, for reasonable price and which go on sale from time to time at 20% off.

Here's the Bulk Barn homepage .. http://www.bulkbarn.ca/en-ca/index.html .. check out the current flyer and any coupon offers!

I beleive Costco is by far the cheapest!

Kristine Sat, Mar-29-14 13:06

Deal alert: this week, Target has 16-oz Omega Nutrition brand organic, flavourless coconut oil for $8.99. I grabbed two.

hummelda Mon, Apr-14-14 15:22

I buy the Carrington's brand of organic cold-pressed at Costco and we love it. I think it ends up being about $1.12 / 100ml but it's been on sale there at least once and I grabbed a few at that time.

walnut Mon, May-19-14 11:33

superstore carries suraj coconut oil: 1.79 for 250ml. it's really refined and no coconut taste.

i've used the carringtons as well and it's nice, but very coconutty tasting. i think it works fine for desserts but wouldnt want to use it on my eggs...

hummelda Mon, May-19-14 13:56

I love the taste of the coconut oil with eggs! and pretty much everything else too. :)
