blood type

been talking to people about dieting for your blood type.

curious what blood typeeveryone is?

I'm o-

PlayDoh Wed, Mar-07-07 15:08

i have no clue anymore what my bloodtype is. i had picked up the blood type diet books at a yard sale, brand new for .50 cents, read them, and it didn't really come off as feasible to me, so i sold the books on ebay for a small fortune instead, went on atkins, and never looked back.

gmmd Wed, Mar-07-07 15:15

O- I read this is the best diet for blood type O

emily30 Wed, Mar-07-07 15:18

I've never tried a blood type diet. I have done low fat/low cal and got fat. I've done and continue to do Atkins. I lost the weight and now maintain it by moving up the ladder. My blood type is also O-.

Mousesmom Wed, Mar-07-07 15:38

I'm A+ which according to the book means I should be vegetarian. NOT likely!!!!

It might help if you realise that there is absolutely no scientific basis for anything that Dr A'Damo says about blood type. ;)
I tend to be pretty suspicious when people make these wild claims without bothering to back them up with actual science. But...it has sold him a lot of books, and doubtless made him a rich man.
Dr Atkins became a rich man too, but his diet is based on solid science. :agree:
JMHO

Before Atkins, I suspected my blood type was gravy, now I'm not sure.

Gostrydr Wed, Mar-07-07 19:12

That diet has been debunked for ages now..

Total B.S..why didn't our ancestors or tribes around the world practice a blood type diet?

Great,great,marketing campaign

ElleH Wed, Mar-07-07 19:30

I'm B+ I don't think the blood type diet is very solid, either.

Isn't that about like saying, "Why didn't our ancestors or tribes around the world use Microsoft Office?" Blood typing didn't exist before 1901.

A beautiful theory, victim of a low-fact diet.

hayes Thu, Mar-08-07 05:10

Im O+. I don't know anything about the blood type diet. I love Atkins. :)

salyc Thu, Mar-08-07 08:31

I don't either.... but I know I am O- and Iheard that was the LC type... so I was curious...

I put no weight in it either... I just wondered...

Yes, according to Dr. D'Adamo, we Type O are low-carb because we're less evolved from our hunter-gatherer ancestors.

Low-carb -- so easy a caveman could do it!

salyc Thu, Mar-08-07 09:56

That's me!! Caveman!! I got Geico insurance and I do Atkins!

ROCK ON!

Do I have to stop shaving my legs and start dragging my knuckles when I walk??

stacy0912 Thu, Mar-08-07 12:47

Same here!

I like my veggies, but I cannot live without meat! Ok, I can live....but not happily!

kallyn Thu, Mar-08-07 21:14

AB-, which means I'm most likely screwed if I ever need a blood transfusion. Luckily my mom and sis have the same one.

You saw those commercials too? where the caveman is in therapy..? now, commercials.. thats a whole other thread!

p.s. My sister lent me this book years ago. it gathered dust for a long while, then I gave it back. Read it, never put much stock in it.

LuvLatte Fri, Mar-09-07 07:03

I'm A+. I love vegetables, but over the years, I've learned that carbs get me in trouble so I'm commited and loving this LC WOE!

deirdra Fri, Mar-09-07 11:56

Although there is not a 1:1 correspondence between diet & blood type, there is probably a statistical correlation as blood type & sugar sensitivity are both controlled by genes. But I'd rather forget the middleman (blood type) and just look at the cause (sugar & gluten) and effect (fat) on me.

Really? I'm AB+ which means I'm a universal recipient (can take blood from anyone). I'd think you'd only need to find a donor who was rh -, regardless of A or B factors?

acctually O- is the universal donor... They see us o-'s comming through the blood bank line and get all excited!

AB- is only bad if you have sergury and they have to type and cross match

kallyn Sat, Mar-10-07 13:24

I always just assumed I would be screwed because AB- is the rarest blood type (1/2-1% of the population, I think). Looking it up just now, it seems I can receive blood from any negative donor, but no positive donors. I can only donate blood to other AB's. It would be problematic if I ever needed an exact match or a plasma match, since it is the rarest type.

CarolynSG Mon, Mar-12-07 04:51

Hi there... Hey Elizabeth, I am AB+

swelch Wed, Apr-11-07 09:21

i am A+. Husband is O.

zorra_1 Wed, Apr-11-07 10:58

O+ here...and there's a blood drive on campus tomorrow that I should go to!

Last time I went they ripped me to shreds...BOTH arms. Just a little hesistent to go back!
