"sick of water"

Ok Im gonna whine. I am sick of water. I hate crystal light, Dont like ice tea, love diet vanilla pepsi but it stalls me if I drink too much, I am barely getting down 6-7 glasses a day. Some times it feels like it wont stay down. I absolutely hate it!. Anyone else losing ok NOT drinking all their water?

teresamay Thu, Apr-22-04 07:57

Nope - gotta have the water...It also keeps away the leg cramps. I feel for you though, it is hard to down it all - for me I have to have ice cold water - lukewarm makes me naseaus...keep up the water, it will be worth it in the end :)

teresamay Thu, Apr-22-04 07:58

ps..how did you lose over 100 pounds in a month? Your stats say you went from 278 - 139? That is wonderful!!

Hugaby Thu, Apr-22-04 08:03

My start weight is when I had my gastric bypass, 2 years ago. I started Atkins at 161 on 2-7-04 think I should change my profile???

Rosie Real Thu, Apr-22-04 08:22

I have to keep bottles in the fridge all the time, I need mine super cold also. It's hard at first, but then you'll get to where you feel you NEED it and it's not a chore anymore. :)

sjkling Thu, Apr-22-04 08:27

i can't drink large quantities of water if it is super cold. i do like ice water, but it has to be just a little cool for me to guzzle it all down. i kind of make a game out of it....i fill a two quart jug and i have to drink it all before the end of the day! i also drink a bottle on the way to work and a bottle on the way home...plus a glass here and there at home. sometimes i try to see if i can empty the jug before noon! then i don't have to deal with it anymore!

SelenaK Thu, Apr-22-04 08:59

You know, I don't mind drinking the water, but having to pee all day long is getting to be a real drag -- I went to the movies with a friend and had to get up three times to go to the bathroom; I missed out on a key scene!

celestia Thu, Apr-22-04 12:29

I love water now, and I used to not drink a drop! Just before my husband & I started Atkins, we purchased a Pur Ultimate Dispenser. I love my water from this thing! We keep it super cold, and I buy my ice from the grocery store since it is made with purified water.

So, in short, tap water doesn't cut it - I won't drink it.

bcbeauty Thu, Apr-22-04 12:47

I am the opposite of Theresa-May I drink it better when it's not so cold. I carry around a water bottle with me all the time. I t makes it easier.

Hugaby Thu, Apr-22-04 14:11

Ok I try to get all 7-8 glasses down from 4am when I wake up to exercise until about 9am so I dont have to drink anymore the rest of the day. My boss wonders why Im in the restroom all morning, and I make little tic marks on my calendar on my desk to keep track. I cant drink it really cold it hurts my teeth and tap is yucky. So, the boss bought a filter for the office. OK guys tell me it does NOT matter if you drink all the water in the am, I dont have to drag this out right????

kyrie Thu, Apr-22-04 14:22

I like lukewarm water best-- super cold water turns my belly.

theoldlady Thu, Apr-22-04 15:46

Just so you know, there are people who really can't drink a lot of water. I tried the 64 oz. per day and got cardiac arrhythmias and also leg and foot cramps so bad I thought I'd be crippled. I was just diluting myself too much. I drink when I'm thirsty, and that works for me. I end up drinking about 40 oz. per day, and that's just about right for me.

Taking potassium, magnesium, and salt (if I didn't eat anything salty) helps with the problems, too.

Why not see how you do?

Another way to get liquid is Diet Rite cola. It's Splenda-sweetened, carbonated, cola-colored water with absolutely no-nothing in it in the way of carbs, calories, or nutrients. If you just hate water, that may work for you.

Good luck finding your path to water perfection!

Jael Thu, Apr-22-04 15:52

I know what you are going through...I also find water unpalatable. It can't taste to other people like it tastes to me or no one would be able to drink it! Unless it's ice cold, it upsets my tummy and if I keep forcing it, I'll be nauseous. I found that if I add a tiny bit of sugar-free flavor, it helps me get it down. Not a lot, just enough to take the edge off that taste...

kerryanne Thu, Apr-22-04 15:55

I also find it helps to carry around a couple of 500ml bottles around during the day....My advice is to set yourself mini water goals to make it less of a deal....try having liitle gulps frequently rather than lots in a short space of time.....before you know it youve drunk a small bottle...Also dont just wait until you are thirsty to drink sip in between thirst to boost your hydration....

kittysf Thu, Apr-22-04 20:56

i heard of this fruit h20 thing

which i havent tried, but i'm getting close.

i think that finally i've become sick of water, it would be nice to be able to drink something else.

coffee-- nahh glad i broke that addiction
tea-- every blue moon

soda= no no

so what else is there

i have a glass of wine here and there, but it always comes back to water. and i think that i need to ahve something else or i'm gonna break

tcastro Thu, Apr-22-04 21:04

If you just keep a water bottle around you all day, you'll find yourself drinking it often.

I probably drank 3 glasses of water per week before I went on this diet.

Now I drink about 100oz each day and actually like it :o

Lusumofme Thu, Apr-22-04 21:30

I have a 32oz bottle at work and try to drink between 64ozs and 96 ozs. For some reason when I get home I don't drink as much water. But I feel better knowing that I consumed most of my water earlier that day. It also must be lukewarm water, cold water slows down my drinking.

KoKo Fri, Apr-23-04 07:24

I hate water too. The only way I can do it is to drink sodium free soda water, this way I can drink the recommended amount it's nice and bubbly and quite refreshing. I too manage to get a good amount of my water in during my workout. I never used to drink ANY water - diet coke, black coffee and red wine were my only fluids  now that I drink about 2 litres a day I really do see a difference in my skin - I look a lot less wrinkly than I did before!!!

Hugaby Fri, Apr-23-04 08:10

I have to admit my complexion has cleared alot since I "forced" the water. I just do the best I can and try to get it all down in the AM so I dont have to deal with it. Sometimes Sat and Sun I skimp on it and I do get thirsty. However, I still hate it! But then again I dont like exercise either and have to do it. Anyone come up with any ideas let me know.

blue4lemon Fri, Apr-23-04 08:15

Your body's cells need water, not Crystal Lite and Pepsi. If you need to, add lemon juice to the water (and watch it, cause lemon juice has carbs!).

DitzyToad Wed, Apr-28-04 12:45

I too am a water hater. Before Atkins my only fluids were 2 cups of coffee per day and maybe a beer after work. The first technique I tried was downing a glass every hour I was at work... I would get my 8 glasses in that way but I found downing it caused some bloating. Now I keep a 33 oz bottle on my desk... I drink one bottle in the morning and then one in the afternoon.... it seems to work. I also usually drink another bottle if I go to the gym. Before water, I found that after an aerobics class my head would pound..... now that doesn't happen anymore. As much as you hate it, it is important. ;)

DitzyToad Wed, Apr-28-04 12:49

Question for Theoldlady

"I tried the 64 oz. per day and got cardiac arrhythmias..."

How do you know the water caused the arrythmia? I ask because I have recently been forcing about 66 oz of water per day and have noticed arrythmia during anaerobic excercise.

Ladycody Wed, Apr-28-04 13:35

They make some really good flavored waters now sweetened with splenda (citrus, mango peach, apple pear, etc). I get them at Walmart and am not sure where else they are available. Give them a try.

poisinivy Wed, Apr-28-04 13:44

It definately gets better....

I've recently begun Atkins again, 4/8/04 to be exact, and unlike my previous attempt began drinking the water in earnest. I don't profess to be a doctor and wouldn't even try to elaborate on the arythmia (sp?) but I do know that the water flushes your kidneys, as well as everything else, which on Atkins in very necessary due to the increase in protien we eat which has a tendency to "lodge itself" so to speak, in your kidneys. So healthwise........your kidneys really need it. Otherwise it has many other benefits:
1. eat a healthy portioned meal (less than what you might think will fill you) and then follow it up afterwards with a glass or two of water....viola!!! you're all full
2. want beautiful skin that glows, cheeks that are rosy and bright......drink that water and blush, foundation and such will become a thing of the past
3. drink small amounts throughout the day at you're perferred temperature and you'll be amazed at how quickly you reach your personal water goal
4. remember all goals should be catered to you personally, what's good for one may be bad for another
This is all to say.....I too was not a water drinker. Some of the complaints fit me to a tee "it makes me feel sick to my stomach", it just tastes bad, etc. But I have to admit that by the 3rd week it had already become a habit and now I prefer it and like it. I drink an 8oz bottle on the way to and from the office and 1 1/2 to 2 1.5 Liter bottles at work and anywhere from 1-5 glasses at home. Not everyone can handle the same amount I'm sure and I don't think anyone should attempt to mimic what's an acceptable goal for someone else.
Funny, I used to have this low carb drink I loved from 7eleven that tasted liked slightly flavored water......I tried it again last week and couldn't even finish it, it was so sweet and strong in flavor. Now when I'm thirsty, I'm thirsty for water, nothing else works and I don't have a desire for anything else. I do still run to the bathroom quite often and there's never an evening that I'm not doing the pee-pee dance with my daughter as we wait in our elevator to get to the 8th floor.......but I'm adjusting.

Vanity3 Wed, Apr-28-04 13:47

Are you getting enough?

this is from http://www.low-carbdiet.co.uk/

Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be

Weight-----------------Liters
140lbs-----------------2.5
160lbs-----------------3.0
180lbs-----------------3.0
200lbs-----------------3.5
220lbs-----------------3.5
240lbs-----------------4.0
260lbs-----------------4.5
280lbs-----------------4.5
300lbs-----------------5.0
320lbs-----------------5.5
340lbs-----------------5.5
360lbs-----------------6.0
380lbs-----------------6.5
400lbs-----------------6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odor.

SLMDezi Thu, Apr-29-04 06:01

Try flavored seltzer water...it takes awhile to get use too...but I love it..it took me a week to get use to it...I have to have carbonated drinks...I'm down to one diet pepsi a day..but I do drink lots of seltzer...good luck!
