Losing fast feel weak! HELP!

Ok here's the thing, I'm down 76 pounds in 5 months which is great, I'm thrilled. But I've lost 30 of that since March 28 and am starting to feel a bit weak and tired all the time. I use to not take naps and now just want to sleep all the time. (NO I'm not preggo, just got done with TOM)

I think it's time to move on to OWL, what do you all think?

Thanks.

luddybell Wed, Apr-21-04 04:48

I think its definately time to move to OWL ... your body may be "acting up" so to speak due to the little carbs that you are doing... try uping them up by 5 carbs and see if that makes you feel better.. and are you taking your supplements and your water? and are you eating enough calories?

AFwife Wed, Apr-21-04 04:50

Thanks for responding so quickly luddybell.

Yes I take my supplements, called Woman's Daily Pak and my water, lots of it. I eat about 3000-3100 calories daily. I exercise 6 days a week too. OH and my carb intake is around 20-25 usually.

Suggestions?

luddybell Wed, Apr-21-04 04:53

hmmm i would try to up it at least 5 carbs and see if thats why your feeling fatigued... and if that doesnt help i would definately talk to my family doctor.. ( i recently had a "spell " like this and wound up under the knife for a gallbladder removal)

HeMe2Kids Wed, Apr-21-04 04:55

I had this at first, and was advised to boost my B-complex vitamins and my magnesium. I dont know what your taking for supplements, but by upping mine I got rid of that tired all the time feeling.

Also, I am not knocking your loss, (I actually follow you exactly) and I think your loss is phenomenal, but but 30 lbs in 3 weeks is scary.

Just a thought, Any chance of thyroid changes going on?
If not, just be happy, do as you suggest, lighten up the strict carb thing a bit so you feel better and take another nap. If I remember right you have small kids and that can wear anyone out.

Keep your chin up.

AFwife Wed, Apr-21-04 04:55

OK I will up my carbs and see what happens this week. I'll keep ya posted. Gosh, I don't want my gallbladder removed. :nono: Hope you are doing better now!

Thank you!

I take Woman's Daily Pak, it has Calcium, Vitamin E, Mulit-Vitamin/minerals, Evening Primerose Oil and Gelatin. I also take Flaxseed capsules.
This is the reason I'm seeking advice, I know 30 pounds in 3 weeks is way too fast. I'd be happy with half that a month. :)
Just went to doctor last week but didn't get checked for thyroid problems just BP and cholesterol. Which came back ok.
Yes I do have a little one, he'll be 2 on Friday. But he doesn't wear me out really. I think I wear him out.

Thanks

I am taking Centrum for a multi vitamin something new for me but since taking them i lost no weight can someone tell me if this vit may be the cause of no weight loss thanks I live in Nova Scotia anyone from here know of this vit?

Lipid Wed, Apr-21-04 06:00

Lily

People don't lose that rapidly even when they fast as a general rule.

Either you have stumbled onto some mystical food combination for rapid weight loss or something is wrong....you may want to talk to your doctor about this....its no wonder you are feeling weak...that is just too much to lose in 3 weeks time....granted if it was safe I'd sure like to lose that fast though....3-5 pounds is considered very fast weight loss, but 10 pounds a week is unreal.

I would not want to see your weight loss derailed in any way but upping your carbs or something seems a wise thing to do at this point, but I would still see a doctor to make sure there is nothing else causing this kind of weight loss...I hope everything is ok and you feel better soon.

AFwife Wed, Apr-21-04 06:03

Thanks,

I've spoken to my doctor on the phone just right before I had lunch and he says to up my carbs and see how I feel after the end of this week.

He looked in my records from last week's visit and says he sees no abnormalities from the test they ran on me.

So that's good news. He does want to see me if this persist. So I will keep note of how I feel for rest of the week.

Thanks everyone for your support.

I went through something like this last year. I started losing weight really fast and thought the ephedra I was taking was working ! I was so fatigued that I couldn't walk across the room without feeling exhausted. I went to the doc and was tested for thyroid, found out I had Graves disease...hyperactive thyroid. After a few months of meds, I've gotten it under control.
Please have your thyroid checked !

What is this disease about? I don't like that it's called Graves.

Never mind I found it on the internet. Thanks!

Making doctor's appointment right now. Phone is on my ear.

Thanks. I'm waiting for a call back for my appointment date. I checked the sypmtoms, I had only had 6 out of 21 listed symptoms but it's enough to make me want to go get checked.

I'll keep everyone posted of date for my appointment and what results come back as.

Thanks again.

I better get off here cause I just felt like if I was gonna faint. That's not good.

Later,

You know, per DANDR, you would qualify as very NOT metabolically resistant. Therefore, you'll probably end up at a higher level of carbs than a lot of us when you begin maintenance. Do you feel especially weak or lightheaded when going up stairs? I think OWL is a great idea for you.

I just feel tired. I can walk up the stairs just fine. And just a bit ago I felt like I was gonna faint. I think I'm just not eating enough carbs.

4beans4me Wed, Apr-21-04 07:12

LILY!! Gosh girl, I'm worried about you!!!!!! :( I'll be watching for an update hun, best of luck!!!!!!!

4beans4me Wed, Apr-21-04 07:13

ps. did all this faintness start after you recently upped your exercise routine? If so, you should definitely up those carbs.

AFwife Wed, Apr-21-04 07:28

Yeah actually it did Becki.

Should I slow down on my exercising, I've become obsessed? I'm uping my carbs either ways.

:)

Still waiting on doc to call me back.

AFwife Wed, Apr-21-04 07:31

Hey, I just realized something. Every time I sit at the computer and look at the screen, that's when I feel dizzy. It has been over a year since I get new eye prescriptions. Could that me causing the dizziness?

Still getting thyroids checked for rapid weight loss though.

Elihnig Wed, Apr-21-04 07:39

Don't forget about a potassium supplement. 99 mg 4 times a day. Losing weight so fast is probably washing potassium right out of your system and can leave you weak and tired.

You guys are truly great. I love this forum.

Ok where do I find potassium vitamins. Give me a name brand. Then I'll go to GNC and get some.

Thanks

AFwife Wed, Apr-21-04 07:45

OK I'm convinced the dizziness is from needing new glasses. I stepped away from the computer long enough to give my baby a snack and I was fine. I sat back down started typing away and BAM, dizzy again.

I'm gonna make an eye doctor appointment too.

Maybe I'll get contacts again. I'm tired of glasses.
:)

HeMe2Kids Wed, Apr-21-04 08:25

dizziness may indeed be the glasses problem,

But the tired is something esle.

Now, I do take a multi vit, too, but a ALSO take additional B Complex and additional Mag. This I added on top of the small amount in the multi. Those multis are really small amounts to supplement a "normal" diet. As long term inductioners we need more!

It cant hurt you to just get a effervescent B complex ones like I did. I also use the same effervescent mag. and it tastes like lemonade, nice with breakfast kind of like juice. :O)

Let us know what the doctor says.

PS. do you think we were too hard on Lexy?

Iowan Wed, Apr-21-04 08:45

Lily,

I have never heard of losing that much weight in such a short amount of time. To me it would be a blessing, BUT I have also been where you are with feeling really, really tired, and feeling like fainting. I got some wonderful advice to up my carbs, and I do not go through that anymore. Adding more carbs in definitely helped ALOT! If I want to take naps I do, but I do not HAVE to take a nap because I am super drained like I did before. I am hoping that upping carbs for you will be the key to making you feel energetic again :)

I hope that the doctor can help you out, hon!! I am sure that everything is okay :bhug:

AFwife Wed, Apr-21-04 08:45

Ok doctor called and wants me to come in tomorrow morning for blood work. He will check me for thryoid and check to see if I'm anemic and I'll have results with 24 hours.

He was worried about me losing so much in just 3 weeks. He wants me to slow down so I'll start OWL right away. And we will know for sure when results come back.

Thanks again for all the support.

Marieshops Wed, Apr-21-04 09:46

Good luck with the tests. I hope they all turn out well. This is a great time for you to be moving into OWL since spring is here and you can get lots of fresh berries to add in. With all of your exercise you can probably add in nuts and berries very easily and then keep going up the carb ladder. Best wishes and hoping for the best for you. Keep us up to date.

Marie

AFwife Wed, Apr-21-04 10:26

Thanks Marie,

I will keep you all posted.

I feel like this when I over-train. Six days/week may be more than your body wants to handle. I used to train that much (six days a week) and I was always exausted. I have cut it down to three days a week of pilates and areobics, on the same day. Mon/weds/Fri, with weekends off. I am getting increased results without the burnout.
